For a movie with such hype and a large fan-base, you would expect to see a movie with some life and vigor. But then again, when you are casting one of the more over rated actors in the industry in Tom Hanks, you can't expect a whole lot right?

The movie, Da Vinci Code, taken straight from the book with a few adjustments to save time (even if the movie was a collosal 2 hours and 29 minutes), did no justice to Dan Brown's controversial and breathtaking novel masterpiece. Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou are on a quest to find the missing grail while fighting away the powerful hand of the Opus Dei who try everything in their power to prevent it. I choose not to go into the storyline as almost every child in this world knows it by now.

The movie drags and drags, then drags some more. Then when you take a sigh of relief and think that the draggin is over, they drag you some more just to show you that they really know how to drag a film to boredom. I never fell asleep in a theater before this classic, but this is the first time that has happened. Audrey Tautou, playing Sophie, who is perhaps the most important role in the movie, tears apart each and every scene with sub-par acting and bad facial expressions. Tom Hanks tries too hard, tries to wow us with his 'Tomb-Raider' skills, tries to be Tom Cruise at moments in MI, tries to be sleek and sexy like a Motorola RAZR, but he tries and fails.

The only brightspot in this film came from Silas, played by Paul Bettany, who served the Opus Dei and served with passion and honor, even though he was a cruel murderer. He was a demented soul who was shown some light in life by the Opus Dei. He however did not understand his ways till the end when he says his final words ''i am a ghost.' Wonderfully performed his role, and it really felt the character from the book was actually represented well in the movie for once.

The entire movie reinforces the facts of the story too many times. Every new character that is introduced in the movie wants to tell you the story from the roots again. It gets tiring after the first 40 minutes and you just want to begin to lean your head against the side of your seat. I personally woke up at the car accident scene. The book is much better than this movie, so if you have never read the book and want to watch this movie, spend the 9 dollars on the book first and enjoy a good read.
