Great Company, Great Lotion

Value for Money:

When I buy a cosmetic product I try to research the company that sells that product. If they meet my expectations as a company I will then test their product. Not only has The Body Shop met my expectations, but their products like the Unfragranced Lotion are great cosmetic products. I know this review is supposed to be just about The Body Shop’s Unfragranced Lotion, but bear with me as I explain why I personally choose The Body Shop over other cosmetic companies. Perhaps then you will understand why I like this particular product so much.

The Company:

The number one reason why I buy from The Body Shop is because they have a very firm environmental policy that they strongly reinforce. Let’s face it, Earth is OUR home and it is beautiful. I personally am going to do everything in my power to preserve its beauty. This includes checking out the companies that make the products that I use. The Body Shop’s environmental policy highlights the fact that they as a business have to act to protect the environment. They not only strive to think locally but also globally and do this while still achieving the excellence that they are known for.

Their environmental policy promises the consumer that The Body Shop will:

  1. Manage growth to avoid environmental and human exploitation

  2. Manage energy by using renewable resources

  3. Manage waste (Yes, The Body Shop recycles customer’s used cosmetic bottles)

  4. Control pollution

  5. Operate safely

  6. Obey the law

  7. Raise awareness

Many companies say that their products have not been tested on animals. They are not technically lying to you...the final product is not tested on animals. What they neglect to tell you is that at some point along the way the ingredients in the final product have been tested on animals. The Body Shop however is against ALL testing on animals. They do not test their product or it’s ingredients on animals and are working very hard to completely ban animal testing to prove that cosmetic products do not have to be tested on animals to be safe for the consumer. The Body Shop uses ingredients with a history of safe human use that are subject to non-animal testing using microbiological analysis through computers. As a final step sometimes the products are even tested on human volunteers. Personally, I feel safe knowing that all these safety measures are taken to ensure the quality of The Body Shop products and I don’t need them to be tested on animals.

The Product:

Even though I have the choice to buy hundreds of different pre-scented Lotions from The Body Shop I most always choose the Unfragranced lotion. These are the reasons why I choose the Unfragranced Lotion:

  1. This lotion is not only great for my sensitive skin but can be used on all skin types.

  2. It contains Babassu Oil, a rainforest emollient that protects and conditions the skin to make it look smooth and feel soft. Great to soothe freshly shaved legs!

  3. Contains Macadamia Nut Oil, an oil that contains Palmitoleic (a monounsaturated fatty acid), which is proven to reduce signs of aging and may act to protect cells, particularly those exposed to excessive sunlight. Protecting skin cells is a plus, especially when everyone has to be so conscious about skin cancer.

  4. Smoothes on my skin evenly and easily, being quickly absorbed. This is important…I don’t want the oils of the lotion I use to stain my clothes.

  5. There are tons of unique oils that The Body Shop will scent your lotion with if you desire it scented. This means YOU can control how strongly scented your lotion is. (Currently I own a lightly scented mango lotion ;-)) Just a word of warning though, sometimes the scented oils break down the lotion making it thinner then normal. To avoid thin lotion, be careful how much scented oil you get added to the lotion.

  6. Reasonably priced. I am not going to lie to you and tell you this lotion is cheap. It is moderately expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. I paid $8.50 (US dollars) for an 8.4 FL OZ (250ML) bottle, but scenting with oil is FREE. (Most other places charge to scent lotions)

Obviously I recommend The Body Shop’s Unfragranced Lotion. It is definitely one of the best lotions that I have tried as of date and I imagine that I will continue using it far into the future. I recommend this lotion to everyone, especially those of us who are concerned about the environment and our health. If you are unsure about using this product, ask about a money back guarantee. I have never had to take back any Body Shop products, but I am aware that most stores will allow you to return an item if you are unsatisfied.

Finally, if you have any questions about The Body Shop, they have a very informative web page that has hopes of being able to offer products online very soon.
