What year are we in? Are our Villages so out of reach of this world? Are the villages so backward that we will be amused by a colorful umbrella?
Okay despite reading some bad reviews of this movie, I gave
it a shot because it had a classy actor, Mr. Pankaj Kapoor. To my surprise, the movie was actually worse
than what I had expected. It was
something that I would have be happier watching on television rather than the
theater.
The story is about a blue umbrella, Pankaj Kapoor-the
shopkeeper, and a little girl. The movie starts off with a mean greedy shop
keeper Pankaj Kapoor. He has a thing for
“achaar” and he loans money to kids in exchange for their goodies.
On the other hand we have a poor girl. One day this little girl is out in the field
with her 2 calves when she meets with some Japanese tourists. In exchange for
the Tabeez, she ends up getting their blue umbrella.
Suddenly she becomes the talk of the village. Everyone around her wants that umbrella so
bad. One of those people is the Mean Old
Greedy Shopkeeper, Mr. Kapoor. He steals
the umbrella and gets it colored in different color. The girl later finds that out and reveals
this mystery in front of the whole village, which had made the shopkeeper into
the Mukhiya of the village. Then, the
villager punish the shopkeeper by boycotting his store. Everyone starts ignoring the shopkeeper.
Then the girl felt bad for the shopkeeper and ends up giving
back the umbrella to the shopkeeper, the end.
The story felt like it was being dragged for a bit way too
long. For example, this kind of movie
had no scope for any music but the movie makers managed to have at least four
songs in the movie. In fact, the whole
incidence of finding the umbrella just look forever.
When I was watching the movie, I was thinking maybe the
umbrella has some magical powers to it. My hopes were being solidified by the way some
scenes were presented. For example the
way the snake ran away after seeing that umbrella or the scene where only the
girl was able to close the umbrella.
However, later it felt like the villagers were too innocent or just too stupid
that they were in awe of a silly umbrella.
It turns out that it was just a plain ol’ umbrella.
The kids do not have much footage in the movie, the whole
movie is basically about Pankaj Kapoor. However,
wherever the kids are shown, they are very competent. You do get a couple of giggles watching the
kids. I liked Pankaj Kapoor also. I liked his acting ability but I felt maybe
he was too much into his character.
Sometimes it was hard to understand because it felt like he was just mumbling. I just wonder why the rest of
the people were talking normally.
The movie is not really a movie. It should have been a tele-series. If you really want to watch it, wait for it
on dvd. Don’t waste your money in
Theater.
