When you think of making a movie with more than one superhero, you run many risks in parallel, you might give more importance to a few, your script may be a stitched together fabric of several stories. You may find hard to choose a proper villain, or worst still, the action sequences burden the movie too much to become a flick devoid of all interpersonal relationships and emotions(The fate of the latest Transformers one). Thanks to the lords of Asgard the Avengers steers clear from all of it.

I had never been a Marvel fan. I’d always favoured DC comics’ universe somehow. And of the few guys in Marvel which I like, as in Silver surfer and Wolverine are not part of the movie. I still went in the theatres trusting the numerous reviews and accolades showered by fans and critics. In 3D the movie promised a lot of action sequences and eye candy, and truly delivered so.

Loki of Asgard, step brother of Thor always thinks that he has had to live in the shadow of the mighty Thor. He comes to Earth in an evil desire of wielding the abundant energy of the Tesseract to rule over humans. For this quest he takes help of the Other and an army of Chitauri provided by them. To his dismay the powers of earthly heroes unite and all we have is a jolly good ending as usual. So to speak the contents of the script are not that ground-breaking or new, but the execution of the short script is what is important.

As with other superhero movies, this is also made keeping the visual treat in mind. In addition, it also incorporates 3D technology to add the effect of space. Amongst the recent movies which had 3D, I guess Avengers has been one of the very best. They have used the depth to create a more realistic terrain. There are times like when the Hulk chases Black widow, or the time when the aircraft goes airborne, or the time when Iron man turns on the turbines of the engines. I can go on narrating such incidents but I wish not to deprive you of surprises on a rare chance that you have not yet seen the movie. 3D is a whole new dimension in its literal sense, which provides far more possibilities to experiment and here those experiments do not fail.

Having praised the action of the movie, let’s now focus the reason of the action. Many superhero movies lack exactly that. Even here the background is not lavishly intricate; mostly it acts as a needed backdrop for all the action and effects. Still the movie feels engaging for the sole reason of performances by Iron Man, Hulk, and Nick Fury etc. You hear many short verbal tussles between Loki and Thor, Black widow and Hulk and Iron Man with absolutely everyone. These are those performances that bring glory for marvel. So to speak, the Revenge of the Fallen(Transformers) had great action sequences too, but I think somewhere we lost the purpose for the fights.

The tidal wave of superhero movies and action sequences do tell us something important. The technology is growing on and out of us. Today we have tools to showcase what is virtually impossible with ease and dexterity. We have CGI and animation tools, post processing and editing, dubbing tools. Those which have now become so advanced that, we are constantly in search of more demanding and technical storylines. The Avengers gives is exactly what our eyes please, along with the answers or the reasons for the demands. There are very few movies which can truly do that. Stay the course and provide entertainment which is a visual treat but not just eye candy, but backed up by acting and script; The Avengers-which you must watch if you haven’t yet-is one of them.
