Story:

Some books deserve to be read again and again. “The Alchemist”, undoubtedly, is one such a book. It was in 1999 I had this unforgettable experience of reading a magical fable when one of my friends gave me a copy of “The Alchemist”. I found the book so fascinating that I finished it in one sitting.

Written by Paulo Coelho, one of the most read and acclaimed authors, “The Alchemist” tells the story of Santiago - the shepherd boy. This boy keeps on getting a recurring dream and, at last, goes ahead pursuing his dream. On his momentous journey starting from the Andalusian fields in Spain to the Egyptian Pyramids, Santiago meets interesting people and encounters many things. He meets people who persuade him to go ahead and discover what his dream holds, people who offer fascinating insights into what life is all about, people who rob him off his valuables, and people who almost kill him. Santiago feels like crying, he feels shattered and broken, he foresees his death,. yet the beauty of his dream is what keeps him going ahead in his adventurous journey.

The entire message in the books revolves around one theme, i.e., “WHEN YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE SOMETHING, THE WHOLE WORLD HELPS YOU”. “The Alchemist” tells that our path is strewn with omens and everything that happens to us has a reason. The book also holds that you can change your destiny when you can read and act upon the message of omens. To summarize, “The Alchemist” offers valuable insights into Love, relationships, and most importantly believing in the beauty of our dreams.

Paulo Coelho does a wonderful job of narrating this fable in a simple, crisp tone. I loved this book so much that I bought 8 copies and gifted them to my friends. I have been recommending this book to all those who are committed to their dreams. If you believe your dreams never vanish as long as you don’t abandon them, go ahead and grab a copy of “The Alchemist”. I’m sure you will find it fascinating, mesmerizing, enthralling, absorbing, and what’s not?
