‘No dream is ever too big. No dreamer is ever too small..’

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can a simple fable transform your life ? Yes, it can.

And so I embarked on a journey called ‘The Alchemist’. Reading this book was akin to embarking on a journey with Santiago. With him, I dreamed, suffered, hoped, cried and laughed. And while I was on this journey, I realized that my life is a journey too. Only, I had not realized it till I read this book. In fact, I had not realized many truths.

Like did you know that world’s greatest lie is that at a certain point of our lives we lose control of what’s happening to us and our lives become controlled by fate ?

And maybe you have heard this before……..When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

Maybe you did. But tell me, honestly, do you really believe it ? Probably not. Simply because we have been conditioned to live with this fear that everything in this cosmos is against us.

But imagine believing that some mysterious force in the universe wants you to realize every dream of yours. Does it make you feel like running with the dancing wind the way it does to me ?

‘Alchemist’ is about a young shepherd boy called Santiago who dreams of hidden treasure in the Egyptian pyramids. He decides to follow his dream and starts the journey on which he meets many people – some who guide him towards his dream and some who cheat him on the way and take him two step backwards.

The story begins with a dream and ends with the realization of that dream. Along the way, Santiago moves not just towards his treasure but also towards wisdom and understanding of the dynamics of the universe. There is a love story too – which distracts rather than adds on the beauty of this book.

This book is as simple as a fairy tale and as complicated as a metaphysical journal, depending solely on the reader’s point of view. The language is simple and you may end up finishing the entire book in some hours. It does not preach. It does not talk down to you. It just flows along, and the nuggets of wisom are sprinkled here and there - you may pick them up if you like or you may shrug them off. The author really does not seem to care.

Reading this book made me understand why I feel ONE with the blue skies, deep seas, powerful mountains and the soft breeze.

It made me believe in the ‘soul of the universe’ that speaks in a strange language that is so simple to understand, only if the dreamer stops for a while, stands and listens to his own heart.

It made me want to search for some precious dreams which I had kept and forgotten on a dusty shelf of my life.
