One look at the book and it seems like a very interesting read with a lovely cover and an equally interesting backdrop-city rains and the romance-something most of us would relate to.Atleast, this was my experience of the first look at this book in Oxford Bookstore.
But, this wasn't the feeling after having gone through the text. I would like to draw attention to three aspects of this book:1)How does one feel after reading the book?2)Has the author really understood women psyche when he portrays this character Revathi?3)How would you view marriage after reading this book especially if u're a late twenties Indian ready for the nuptial bells to ring?
1) The book does complete injustice to all its characters.Mayank finally marries his Ms Perfect but still cannot grow out of Revathi.Revathi is left without her family and despised by her friend (or love or wat I still don't know) Mayank in the end.Pranav is given the pain of deception for the rest of his life.And poor Ria, she never got any justice by Tuhin at all!
Once you attach yourself to the various characters you're left shaken in the end.You're devastated if u relate to Revathi.You're enraged and left betrayed if you've related to Pranav(I did).I don't know what one would feel if he had related to Mayank.And one better not recognise oneself with Ria!All in one a complete mood spoiler!
2)How many of you women would agree to the fact that a LOYAL woman who's very good at heart will tie her strings emotionally to another man and go to the extent of consummating the relationship?Well Tuhin certainly does!For here is Revathi portrayed as a good hearted person and married to her first love, Pranav .....things go bad and once she takes a break to save her marriage she sleeps with Mayank!And if this wasn't enough for you then she even picks up Mayank's call while making love with Pranav!The author truely does not understand the psychology of a loyal and committed woman!
3)After reading the book the reader in all probabilty gets very misconstrued about a marriage where love exists.The story shows marriage in modern life as an open relationship ripe with misunderstandings, insecurity and dalliances!The whole concept of Indian marriage is not intact.Do not read if are a bachelor.You'll never want to marry anyone in your life!My sympathies with Pranav!
