Magic. Review on Tezaab

"Teri zindagi aur maut ka faasla Munna ki chaku ki dhaar se zyaada nahin hai."

Some films are classics with a question for thought with a deep intellectual story. Others are classics due to sheer performance. Tezaab is such a classic.

It is a complicated story line. There are two flash back sequences in the film. They keep you busy. Get some extra button for forward and rewind of you VCR VCD player. That will make life easy. But there is much more to keep you busy - the star cast and performance to make such a story line successful on screen. And that makes it difficult to find who is the real star.

For one thing tezaab is Anil Kapoor in all his glory. Anil kapoor is dramatic. He is dynamic. He is vibrant. He performs stunts. He performs dances. Tezaab is one of the best performances from Anil Kapoor. The movie starts and you have to forget everything else or you have lost it. You will have to watch this movie again if you missed a single part of it. The story line is so engrossing that it keeps you busy. On the other hand I think this is the only story line to give Anil kapoor maximum visibility. In no other movie is Anil Kapoor so prominent and there are very few stars who have been so prominent in a single movie. Anil kapoor everywhere. Expected everywhere, available everywhere. Available when he is needed. And he is in full force. Tezaab is Anil Kapoor incarnate. He doesnt disappoint at any place.

But then - Is Anil Kapoor that great? Yes he is. But pardon me - I will place my bet on Madhuri Dixit. I bet Anil Kapoor would have been invisible but with Madhuri dixit. I cannot say much because she makes me speechless in Tezaab!  I confess. If I were Anil Kapoor I couldnt have performed the role played by Anil Kapoor in Tezaab. Honestly, I would have fainted - simply. But I am not lucky enough. I really wanted her to defeat Mandakini - and she did it.

A love story between Anil Kapoor and Madhuri begins in college days

which Madhuri's father(Anupam kher) resents as he wants her to dance

and earn for his wine, being a drunkard. he forcefully makes her a

dancer  and he lives on borrowed money - borrowed from Lotia Pathan. He

cannot pay the money and finally Madhuri is kidnapped by Lotia Pathan

so that she can pay her father's dues by doing indecent job. In the

meantime Munna(Anil Kapoor) gets into trouble due to a corrupt police

officer and has to spend a lot of time in exile. He has to come back

before his the expiry of his exile period to rescue madhuri from Lotia.

He is the only man in town who is capable of doing this and he does

with the help of his Tapor friends. They rescue her, burn Lotia's dirty

township and after some more drama, the movie ends.

Yes. If I were Anil Kapoor I couldnt have performed the role played by Anil Kapoor in Tezaab. And let me put forth my feelings. No khan, kapoor and etc etc could have performed that role against Madhuri. To dare to fool Madhuri. I would have burnt the silver screen when Anil Kapoor makes a fool of her in Tezaab. I would have - if it was not Anil Kapoor. Anil Kapoor reserves that right. And only Anil Kapoor. That is what makes Anil Kapoor special. And that is what makes Anil-Madhuri pair an unbeatable classic. Madhuri was unbeatable till her marriage - her personality craving a real male figure on screen. But there was no challenge after Anil Kapoor. Madhuri was only Madhuri after Anil Kapoor.

Picture the best actress ever of Bollywood of all times - Madhuri Dixit  and one of the best actors - Anil Kapoor and the fact that tezaab is the best Anil Kapoor Madhuri DIxit film perhaps. That makes it almost an epic. Sometimes I feel The Anil Madhuri charm keeps all the other players well tuned all over the film. Please pardon me the other people if you are reading it. All the characters in Tezaab are played well. They have performed enough to keep you bound for the buck. And I want to see this film again and again.
