....Musings of a harassed cinegoer....

I believe there are two kinds of movies  1.The paisa vasool kind after which people come out happily smiling from the theaters , satisfied with the entertainment provided or rekindled by the message conveyed  and   2.The kind of movies after which people tear out their hair in sheer frustration and freely abuse the accursed makers

In my review I will give a detailed description of movies of the second kind which I was unfortunately subjected to watching…..I have included only the well known movies and not what I would call the ‘Bachke rehna re baba’ or the ‘Toofan’ kind.I have given little or no importance to the movies’ box office status, the selection is purely based on demerit and a matter of personal opinion …. here I lash out on them……in descending order…..

Mohabatein ……This is easily one of THE most disappointing flicks I have had the misfortune of seeing. I more or less expected an above average flick from the director of one of my most fave flicks…DDLJ…instead  what I got was a horribly convoluted movie with a script with more holes than a normal sieve! Both the main protagonists performed well below their potential and to add to my woes there were six air headed fools who quite obviously don’t know the A of acting.I came out of the theater with a very heart after watching this one

Asoka…..Yet another disastrous attempt at filmmaking…frankly I  didn’t expect a masterpiece from a first time filmmaker …but  never in my dreams did I imagine it would be such a lousy flick! What with a weak looking SRK serenading a skimpily clad Kareena(she can’t act for nuts) in his dreams .Right from the script to the editing and direction …most of the aspects of this movie suc*ed!!

Mangal pandey….If Mohabatein was disappointing, this was even  more so.It is hard to imagine that Ketan Mehtha, a fine director  could make such a blunder in the name of  a movie. It was quite obvious that proper research was not done in the first place. Secondly Aamir  wasn’t quite his ‘Sarfarosh’ self and Rani was completely wasted…the less said about Amisha the better. The only one who truly impressed me was Toby Stephens as Gordon. All said and done this flick had neither ‘mirch’ nor ‘masala’.

Salaam Namaste….A completely nonsensical, cheap so called romantic comedy from Yashraj films. I could hardly sit through this ghastly venture . Thogh the chemistry between the lead was good …Priety’s constant shrieking grated on my already frayed nerves and ABjr’s act was shameful to put it mildly. The mis placed songs and below average direction irritated the hell out of me!

Bunty aur Babli…..A slugghish useless farce in the name of a movie. The story was highly contrived and it wasn’t presented convincingly. Among the actors only Rani  lived upto my expectations  with her usual pleasant demeanour. Though the songs were above average , they were unnecessarily thrust into the story…..Alas!hardly what I expected from the Saathiya director…..

Devdas…. Yes! you  read it right ….I am sure most of you are surprised or even angry to see an Oscar nominee in my list …but to give my honest opinion , this flick  was sheer torture for three seemingly neverending hours which threatened to extend on and on for a lifetime. I have frankly never come across a more boring saga , what could have been a masterpiece turned out to be a mere piece of crap. Aish was constantly shrieking a la Kareena and SRK appeared to have put in too much effort thus ruining the effect. The screenplay was absolutely in the shambles and the direction shoddy. I was actually having a hearty laugh in the so called emotional scenes.

Raja Hindustani……I guess Dhamesh darshan is THE worst director in the history of Bollywood cinema. No words can describe the monumental stupidity of his flicks… Raja  Hindustani being one of them. Aamir hammed beyond belief and Karishma was her usual pathetic self. The story was a highly diluted version of the celebrated yesteryear flicks ‘Guide’ and  ‘Abhimaan’. Had it been handled well it would have been a watchable flick…but sadly that doesn’t happen….

Naach….Disco cum bharathnatyam cum aerobics cum gymnastics cum ….phew!!

What exactly was Antara trying to convey through her revolting body language?.. … I was absolutely sick of watching her on screen  for a little more than 2 hours. Ramu failed miserably this time around

Bewafaa….A morbid version of ‘Gumraah’… I was bored to death by this movie(if you can call it one in the first place)….Sush provided enough eye candy and that was about it. The rest of the cast were so mechanical and monotonous to the point of inducing nausea. Akki’s sideburns made an awful style staemaent to top it all! Need less to say this is yet another dreary attempt at filmmaking by the ahem…the’master’ Dharmesh Darshan

Shabdh…..Now this could have been one great movie if handled well. But the inexplicability of the situations in this flick drove me right up the wall.Ash looked was looking confused (just like the audience) through this truly dreadlful flick and Sanju acted like a lunatic . Zayed was the last straw!! His stupid grin , pathetic dialogue delivery and complete lack of historonics on his part makes an absolutely disgusting spectacle
