My personal choices
Jul 16, 2006 07:01 PM 5020 Views

I believe Bollywood is the cradle of sycophancy and  hypocrisy----what with so many talented artistes  being sidelined and so many untalented ones continually being inflicted  on the poor unsuspecting audience. The following I believe are the OVERRATED  personalities in Bollywood. If fans are offended please forgive me. Also I have rated the following on basis of performances only and not box-office success. ………….…so here goes……

10.Emran Hashmi

All he does is kiss each and every  heroine . So far he has been given umpteen opportunities but he still fails to improve----The same wooden expression , the lopsided smile, the supposedly sexy walking style etc are his  rotten trademark. I would rather appreciate someone like John Abraham who can carry  of these mannerisms with enviable ease but definitely not serial-smoocher Hashmi.

9.Abhishek Bachchan

I know that some(or even many) may not agree with me but this is my personal choice. I admit that he was fabulous in ‘Phir milenge’ thanks to Revathi’s direction ---but that apart sadly none of his performances have really appealed to me. He was horrid in’Salaam Namaste’ and most of his earlier flicks. It was Rani who ruled BnB and Yuva, It was KayKay who rocked in ‘Sarkar ‘and Nana in ‘Bluffmaster’.Now  I don’t mean to say that ABjr is outrightly horrible or anything …yes he is an average actor but certainly doesn’t deserve all the accolades piled upon  him.

8.Vivek Oberoi

I was a devout fan of his in his early days  and I also admire his Tsunami efforts…but off late he seems to have lost all ‘Company’.His  selection of roles is absolutely in the pits. I would go so far as to say that ‘Kisna’ is one of the worst flicks to have ever infested Bollywood. ‘Pyare Mohan’ sucked beyond belief and his roles in Kaal and Yuva are of little or no consequence. Also he doesn’t particularly excel in the looks and dance department. All in all Vivek is  a classic case of  all hype no substance .

7.Karan Johar

I am tad surprised that this director is touted to be the future of Bollywood. If that is true then Bollywood is in for a very togh time indeed! His flicks are of high budget but low in content. They essentially involve Punjabi kudis and Sherwani-clad men weeping at the drop of the hat and caught in the vicious circle of ‘Pyar and dosti’. I wouldn’t have sat through KKHH had it not been for Kajol…according to me only Hrithik and Rani  were bearable in K3g. I am sure that many people are waiting with bated breath for KANK but I am  sure that it is yet another worthless melodrama from the Johar stable.

6. Priyanka Chopra

Apart from  a great figure , this babe has practically nothing to offer!!I could stand her acting only in’Aitraaz’(atleast much better than Kareena)…in the rest  of her movies she has done nothing except to show teeth ….prance about semi-clad and seduce the unfortunate hero. Her dialogue delivery has to improve as well!!

5.Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Yet again many will disagree with my choice but I still maintain that Bhansali is highly highly overrated. I definitely liked ‘Khamoshi’ his debut flick and felt he was a promising director. But since then he has been going downhill as he has minted money through his successive flicks like the gaudy HDDCS, pathetic Devdas and overestimated Black .I would rather admire people like Farhan Akthar, Nagesh Kukunoor and Ashutosh Gowarikar.
