The Hollywood trail

Over the years Hollywood has produced countless number of movies and to choose the top ten movies among these would be a ardous task.

However, based on my viewing I would like to list the gems hollywood has produced over the years.

10. Finding Nemo(2003)

Genre: Animation/Drama/Comedy

Finding Nemo is animation at its best. The movie is about a fish and his son Nemo, a boy clown fish, who is stolen from his home in the Great Barrier Reef, Australia . His timid father then embarks on a rollicking journey to track and bring back his adventurous son. This movie is such a sugar-coated drama that you can just sit back and enjoy for 2 hrs.Really this is the best animation movie I have ever seen.

*9. Lolita(1998)

Genre: Romance/Drama/Tragedy*

Lolita is one of the most controversial movies of the last decade that explores the love relationship between a step-father and daughter. Now this kind of story may be too sensitive for some of them, but I think you would agree with me when I say that movies necessarily dont always only show good things in society. Besides this movie is so well executed it just moves you and leaves you with a deep lump in your throat long after the show is over.

*8. The Ghost and the Darkness(1996)

Genre: Thriller/Adventure*

This movie is based on the true story of two lions in Africa that killed 130 people over a nine month period, while a bridge engineer and an experienced old hunter tried to kill them. Right from the start to finish you cant take your eyes of this movie as with gasping breath you wait in anticipation. What next?.It delivers what exactly a thriller promises.Thrills and more thrills

*7. Terminator 2(1991)

Genre: Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller*

Astalavista baby.Arnold is Arnold.why? Just see Terminator 2. Its one of those few movies which can boast of the sequel being much better than its original. Bet I can watch this movie any number of times.

*6. The Rock(1996)

Genre: Action/Thriller*

This movie is essentially a hostage drama and how a mild-mannered chemist and an ex-con must lead the counterstrike when soldiers threaten a nerve gas attack from Alcatraz against San Francisco. As in bollywood terms, Rock can be termed as a complete masala entertainer. Sit

back, get a large popcorn bucket and enjoyyyy.

*5. Forrest Gump(1994)

Genre: Drama/Romance*

I like this movie because it's so character driven. It explores the life of this peculiar man with a low IQ who has accomplished great things in his life and been present during significant historic events - in each case, far exceeding what anyone imagined he could do. Yet, despite all the things he has attained, his one true love eludes him. "Forrest Gump" is the story of a man who rose above his challenges, and who proved that determination, courage, and love are more important than ability. In true sense it makes you look inward and introspect how a good attitude is more important than ability.

*4. Godfather(1972)

Genre:Crime/Drama*

This movie is about an aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transferring control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.For years and years this movie has been the principal foundation and inspiration for gangster/organised crime movies and is a true classic.

*3. Shawshank Redemption(1994)

Genre: Drama*

After the murder of his wife, banker Andrew Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, where he develops a strong bond with longtime convict "Red" Redding, and becomes influential within the prison. Eventually, Andrew achieves his ends on his own terms.

Prepare to be moved as this is one amazing movie. Shawshank encompasses friendships, hardships, hopes, and dreams. And what is so great about this movie is that it moves you, it gives you hope. It is a simple film, yet it has an everlasting message.

One more interesting thing about this movie was that it was colossal flop at the box-office when it released in 1994. However it went to create a record of sorts with DVD sales.

  1. The Matrix(1999)

Genre:Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller.*

Matrix created a benchmark for sci-fi movies to follow and thats one of the reasons I rate this movie so highly. It raised the bar in terms of movie making by bringing some fresh ideas. The Dialogues in this movie are so innovative, so appealing. The Action scenes are some of the best you will ever watch. It made be feel this movie was far ahead of its time. Thats the triumph of Matrix.

Innovative, Action, Sci-Fi, Dialogues, Style - 10/10. Watch Matrix for a different cinematic experience.

*1. Braveheart(1995)

Genre: Drama/War/Action/Romance*

Braveheart is the partly historical, partly mythological, story of William Wallace, a Scottish common man who fights for his country's freedom from English rule around the end of the 13th century.

Make no mistake. This is the best English movie you would have ever seen. Every which way you look at it. Acting, Pacing of the movie, Dialogues, Screenplay, Cinematography, Music, Editing being the technical aspects. Action, Inspiration, Love, conflict, oppression, betrayal. and risking everything to fight for your beliefs. Braveheart has it all. Braveheart is as close to perfection as a movie can be.period.

As they say about the all encompassing Mahabharatha.Braveheart is the Mahabharata of Hollywood movies.

If you have not watched Braveheart. Do yourself a favour and watch it right away.
