Short and sweet

Before the advent of the cable TV's and Meeeggggaaaa serials, DD used to telecast nice serials. I am not sure about Hindi serials..but I remenber tamil serials. Each serial will be telecasted for 13 weeks. So the serials was short and sweet without testing our patient. I have included my favourites in english , tamil and hindi in no particular order -

# Street Hawk - I remember the whole family sitting in front of TV on satirday nights @ 9.30 Pm. It was about a crusader with one of a kind bike called street hawk and his various adventures. It opened our imaginations and fantasies about bikes and cars. Although a similar serial followed called Knight Rider where bike is replaced by a car, it could not match thsi serial's impact

#Didi's Comedy show : Nonstop Nonsense - I dont know how many of you might have watched this show, but this is one of the best shows in physical comedy. I dont know the the main character's name. I am still searching for a DVD or video of this show. Every single episode is absolutely hilarious to the core. This was one serial which was allowed to view even on exam days.

#Zabhan Sambhalke - This was the Indianised version of Mind your language that was telecast in DD2 on fridays I think. Pankaj Kapoor plays the harassed teacher who teaches Hindi to people from different states.

# Shriman Shrimati - This was another comedy serial that was telecast in DD2 on tuesdays @ 8 PM. It consists of 2 couples where the husbands are drawn towards the other's wife.

#Tom and Jerry - This is my favourite cartoon show along with Mickey mouse and donald Duck. I loved the episoded produced by Fred Quimby. I happen to watch other Tom & Jerry cartoons , but none could match the Fred quimby ones. They were so life like

# Surabhi - This was one of the more successful non filmy/ serial programs totally based on travel experiences and tidbits. Hosted successfully by Siddharth Kak and Renuka Shahane, it made renuka very popular for her wide grin. Very informative yet entertaining.

# Wagle ki Duniya - This was another hilarious serial featuring Anjan srivastava as Wagle and bharati achrekar as his wife and their day to day hilarious experiences.

# Tehkikaat - This featured Vijay anand(I think )in the lead. It was similar to byomkesh bakshi .

# Nam kudumbam - This was a tamil serial featuring S.V.Sekhar , Manager Cheena and Brinda, Madhan Bob and Archith Madan. It was focussed on the comic tussele between Sekhar and his father in law cheena , wife brinda. Every segment is absolutely hilarious

# Vanna Kolangal - This serial features S.VSekhar , Kutty Padmini, ISR , GK . Although there are tussles between Sekhar and his FIL ISR, that was not the main focus . episodes involving his manager MRK and kanakku vaathiyaar GK are absolutely hilarious and superb. My personal favourites are the Dubai cheating and Vedi uppu beerangi saami.

Although there are favourites like Mahabharat , ramayan and Vikram and betaal, I have included only lesser talked about serials. If you have noticed, I have included only DD programs. That's because I find all serials in all Satellite channels devoid of all sense and taste. The characters are all black and white mouthing pages and pages of dialogues without getting ahead in the story. So inspite of popularity of these satellite channels , I think DD is the best till date when it comes to serials.

Your comments and criticisms are most welcome.
