Well, writing a review in this coloum is really a huge task.! yeah. I mean it. and I really appreciate all the reviewers effort and well a review about the versatile and evergreen singer like KJY sir is indeed a priviledge.

be it any MD, any langauge, right from the 60' s -till date, he is an un paralleled melody king. listen to his'aarariraaro' for yuvan, he does sound a lil bit old, but still the song mesmerises you. tats wat is greatness all about.iam sure only KJY sir cud have sung that song with all the necessary things added to it.

I remember an interview where in he was asked to tell about a song, which he thought cud have sung by him. and his answer was' daane daane mei khaanewaalon ka naam likha hai. waise hi Gaane gaane mei gaanewaalon ka naam likha hai' meaning, its an old saying that' in each and every grain, the name of the person who eats it is written, and similarly I believe that in every song, the singer's name is also engraved' and so he said tat he never felt that he shud have sung some other's song and he is happy with what ever he has got and other singers do full justice to their songs .so it is theirs and not his. . this speaks for his modesty and humbleness.

he has made many songs beautiful thru his voice, and I guess even better than wat ne of his MD's wud have wanted . IR had once said that'it is a gr8 priviledge to work with Dasanna. he knows wat is required and he always adds a special flavour to all my songs .' a great composer on a great singer.

I have compiled some songs, say about 10 -15, it was a very difficult task. to group them. these are all his best . just to share with all music lovers out there .

  1. Vaazhvey Maayam intha vaazhvey maayam. from the film vaazhvey maayam, staaring kamal, sridevi, MD - GA,

its a pathos song sung very brilliantly, the voice flowing effortlessly in the high octaves, 'naadagam vidum neram uchha kaatchi nadakuthamma.'

this was the climax song in the movie. the movie had other brilliant songs by SPB, VJ . the lyrics of this song is awesome, and it was sung with the right kind of emotions, , I guess it shud be Vaali sir, or GA himself?? a brilliant piece - listening to this would really make u understand the feelings of the character. kamal did a neat job, as always, in this movie where he plays a lover boy turned cancer patient.

9.DHOM dhom.

. an awesome song from the magic musician IR, he ruled the charts in the 80's.

well raaja Sir is one MD, who always gave the right kind of songs to KJY sir . they had the thing always working . sindhu bhairavi. the'dhom dhom . mogam ennum peyil en manam' . I dont think v have any other song which conveys all the feelings together, the lust, the sorrow, the courage, and KJY sir simply gave his best .

K balachander is sure a task master, the waves of the sea also acts in this song, the tambura acts in this song, and KJY sir's voice. it starts in the base, slowing moving up, reaches top, and then tones a lil bit down .and then then again leaping up.'i guess KB sir wanted it like wave and the song analogous. IR and KJY came up with their best .

8.kanmani nee vara /aagaya venillavey.

a very gud melody from a mohan's movie, I guess it was thendrale ennai thodu, with uma ramanan. another song of the same combination being'aagaya vennilavey' from'arangetra vellai' . two great melodies.

the first is more classical, but with a folkish rhythm base. and during the charanam's, both the singers excel with their voice culture, getting down to the base, and then again moving up, and then stopping it just enuf or elongating it. IR's magic was well crafted by both the singers .

aagaya vennilavey. the song wud be remembered for its picturisation. this movie is the original version of the recent paresh rawal starrer'hera pheri'. and this song is a semi classical number with a pretty decent orchestration. but here again it is the melodic voice of KJY. tat captivates the listeners .

7.en iniya pon nilavey .

the guitar -KJY combo delight from IR. that' thathatharinaaa.' during the third and fourth line. it is such a great delight . .a song to cherish for ever .

6.deivam thantha veedu .

a song to be rememberd for kannadasan's lyrics and MSV' sirs music, a movie to be remembered for KB's direction, a song to be remembered for the way it was sung with the right feel.' verum koil ithil enna abhishekam. unn manam engum theru koothu pagal vesham' see the sattiric tone of the brother. KJY sir - the man with a voice that can emote any feeling.

5.hello My dear wrong number .

another trend setting movie from KB. and kannadasan. very brillaint lyrics as such. all things said in a very decent way . set to a very mesmerising tune by MSV sir and sung with all the required emotions . by Lr easwari madam and KJY sir. . listen t o them singing'porumaiyudan nerungu' .'mudhumai varum varaiyo' jus excellent rendition .

4.vaigai karai kaatre nilllu

TR .another trend setter of his times. not now for sure. be it music, lyrics and the selection of singers . if he had SPB sing his'vaasamilla malar idhu', he had rightly give n'vaigai karai' to KJY sir. this was from uyir ulla varai usha. a sad song . a lover singing abt his lady love. pretty decent orchestration, and KJY sir's rendition made this a very popular song during the 80's .

3.senthaazham poovil vandhaadum thendral

a soothing and highly capitivating melody from raaja sir. Mullum malarum was the movie. the flute flows and then KJY sir's voice flows and the jeep keeps moving, this is most best'travel song' of all times. be the lyrical beauty of the song, the picturisation, the music, the voice of the singer . it is a still a song to be beaten.

2.raja raja cholan.

. again another guitar- piano-KJY combo from raaja sir. rettai vaal kuruvi. see the effortless rendition.' senthamarai senthenmazhai en aavi neeye devi' and immediately without any jerk he sways back to raja raja cholan naan. KJY at his best . another song to be cherished for ever .

. 1. KAnne kalaimaane. this is unquestionably one of the best melodies of all times. kannadasan's last song. set to tune very brillaintly by raaja sir and KJY sir giving all the right kind of emotions .'oomai endral oru vagai amaithi. ezhai endral athil oru amaithi' . this song is one which wud surely mesmerise nebody. even a non music lover(if there is one such person. I guess not!).

these are only some of the great songs of one of my favorite singer- KJY sir. his hindi renditions . jab deep jale aana . his malayalam rendition- sankritha pama gari., his devotional albums .'harivaraasanam', his carnatic concerts. all speak for his talent and dedication, devotion, sincerity .

there r other songs like pottu vaitha(idhayam, IR), nee pathai naan pathi(Keladi keanmani, IR), kanavu kaanum(neengal kettavai, IR), each of which is set to tune in different dimensions, and KJY giving his best as always .

he along with SPB are really god given gift to tamil film music . we must thank MSV sir, Raaja sir, ARR, deva, and all the MD'S for giving them the right kind of songs, so tat they still make us feel happy . hats of to all these musical geniuses . . please do post comments on my review .
