Anu Malik is hated, ridiculed, poked finger at for various reasons. Some say he is outspoken, some feel he is not well behaved, for some he lifts tunes and definitely most of us know that at times, composes

some of the most disgusting music and had a hilarious TV appearance during Idol events.(seems of which he is not aware of).

He is even popular as the plagiarist of the Industry among some music aficionados. For more info, please visit Karthik’s website https://itwofs.com/. He has the highest number of songs to his credit on this site from Bollywood representation. The compilation is basically additions contributed by many listeners like me. Now at least he is great in something.;->

Jokes apart, some of the numbers mentioned in the list below are truly amazing.(Am interested to know how you feel). All said some of his compositions are simply out of this world and no body other than himself can compose them, assuming that he is not following Einstein’s Mantra that of The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources. He is one of the rare music directors in Bollywood who is still using classical music and some times you have to agree, that too, to a great effect. I like the way he uses Tabla profoundly in most of his compositions which is rarely observed in the mainstream music.

Here goes the list of some of my favourites from Anu’s collection, most of which are hopefully not inspired from anybody else. If you have idea, do let me know or send a mail to Karthik and we will make him even greater.:-)

Khuddar(Tumsa Koi Pyaara)

Tumsa Koi Pyaara Koi massom Nahin Hain

Kya Cheez Ho tum Khudd Tumhe Maloom Nahin Hain

Laakhon Hain Magar Tumsa Yahaan Kaun Haseen Hain

Tum Jaan Ho Meri Tumhe Maaloom Nahin Hain/

Sau Phool Khile Tab Yeh Khila Roop Sunehra

Sau Chand bane Tab Yeh Bana Chand Sa Chehra

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Tho Jeena Hi Padega

Jeevan Hain Jahar Tho Peena Hi Padega(?)

Sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar sanu, this song is from the movie Khuddar which was more popular for its controversy including a song Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole, which was later changed to Baby Baby Mujhe Loag Bole due to the debate triggered in parliament. It was a run of the mill movie just like any other Govinda’s movies at that time. Unfortunately, this one song is quite rarely heard because of the reasons mentioned above. People kind of ignored Khuddar totally. But listen to it when you get a chance and you will find that the music even though simple, touches the right chord with the emphasis on https://lyrics. Coming from Anu, its amazing to see no fillers in here like Aah, Uhh.

Ishq(Ishq Huva)

Ishq Huva, Kaise Huva

Achcha Huva, Jaise Huva

Naa Main Jaanu Naa Tu Jaane

Kyun Ho Gaye Hum Deewane

Sung by Vibha Sharma and Udit Narayan, Anu experimented with a completely new singer with phoren yet amazingly sweet accent. Its a typical Anu kinda number with perfect support by the evergreen Udit Narayan.

Akele Hum Akele Tum(Dil Mera Churaya Kyun)

Dil Mera Churaya Kyun, Jab yeh Dil Todna Hi Tha.

Humse Dil Lagaya Kyun, Jab Yun Mooh Modna Hi Tha.

A song that is so perfectly paced for the situation in the movie. The pitch kind of goes up and down but when it comes down, you are again sympathising with Aamir’s character. Very few songs with Angrezi lyrics suit in Hindi songs. This one is right there. Another that I can remember is Rahman’s LAgaan. My heart it beats a thousand words, I feel eternal bliss(O’ ri Chori).

I like all the songs of this movie. but the best one is when Aamir loses his job while rehearing and just before leaving the studio sings the same song they are rehearsing in a different way.

Chehra Gulabi(Piano.) Nazare Sharabi(Piano.)

Zulfon Ki Tauba Tauba Yeh Haya. Ab Kya Kare kaise Jiye

Jaaye Tho Jaaye Kaha. Chehra Gulabi

Altogether, the scene is awesome with Shafi Inamdar making it more hilarious.

Refugee(Aisa Lagta Hain) ALka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam. 7 and half minutes

Aisa Lagta Hain, Jo Na Huva, hone Ko hain

Warna Dil Kyun Dhadhakta, Saans Kyun Rukti

Neende Meri Kyun Udh Jaati.

Again one of the best music that he has given to any movie as yet in his career. Each number is a classic. Aisa Lagta Hain apart from Mere Humsafar and Panchi Nadiya Pawan Ghata are worthwhile mentions here. Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam’s voice to this gem of lyrics by Javed Akhtar were fully complimented by Anu’s music. Kareena’s so lucky to be associated with this song.:-) . This song falls into the category of songs like the Zeehale Masken Makan Baranjish, Bahale Hizda Bechara Dil Hain from Ghulami or Morini Bagama Aadhi Raat Ma from Lamhe. You are instantaneously transported to the exotic, romantic locales of Rajasthan. I would even go a step further and put it besides Raja’s Nee Oru Kaathal Sangeetham from Nayagan.

Baazigar(Kitabe Bahut Si Padhi Hogi Tumne)

Kitabe Bahut Si Padhi Hongi Tumne,

Magar Koi Chehra Bhi Tumne Padha hain

The movie that brought Anu back to limelight from the horrible scores that he was responsible for Mard, Ganga jamuna Saraswat, Toofan types. And what a way did he come back? There was no looking back. This one is really a good song, a typical playish song. Well choreograhed on the cutie Shetty.

Main Hoon Na(Kis Ka Hain Yeh.)

Kiska Hain Yeh tumko

Intezaar Main Hoon Na

Again, Sonu Nigam excels in this moody song from Main hoon Na. Its melodious and instant catch.

Garam Chai Ki Pyaali Ho(Baba Sehgal days)

Ek Garam Chai Ki Pyaali Ho, Koi Usko Pilane Waali Ho

Chahe Gori Ho Yaa Kaali Ho, Seene Sey Lagane Waali Ho

Mil Jaaye Tho Mitt Jaaye Har Gummmmmm

Tara Rum pa pa pum(these are what I meant by fillers before);-)

Remember that Chaman singer called baba Sehgal, the Aaja Meri Gaadi Mein Baithja times. During the same time, Anu came up with some silly album numbers similar to these. That was the trend catching up. His voice might irritate but I love the song as I could not find any gud number on my favourite drink during my college days;-)

Aapas Ki Baat(Mobabat Rang Laayegi Janaab, Aahista Aahista)

Mohhabat Rang Laayegi

Janab aahistha Aahistha

Ke Jaise Rang Laati Hain

Sharaab aahista Aahista.

Sung by the versatile Mohd Rafi, a meaningful song picturised on the Indian Healthy Doll of 80’s, Poonam Dhillon.

Main Khiladi Tu Anari(Churake Dil Mera Goriya chali)

Chura Ke Dil Mera, Goriya Chali,

Udake Nindiya, Kaha Main Chali.

One of the best songs with lot of variations in pace during the entire song. Although a forgettable movie but an unforgettable song, Sanu and Alka lent their voice for this ever romantic number. Does Alka ever let you down in a romantic number.?
