'Dare to be different'.who better to practise it that our very own A R Rahman. In an industry which does not welcome much change he has managed to redefine music and emerge triumphant in the process. His innovative techniques along with his dedication have yielded music that has earned him national as well as international acclaim. A legend in making he has composed more than 100 songs which has wowed listeners of all age groups.

Out of his innumerable compositions I have penned down some which are my personal favourites.

1) Khamosh Raat-From the movie Thakshak. Although the movie bombed at the Box Office, its music did fairly well. This song begins on a slow note but gradually alternates between a fast and a slow pace. Rahman's music along with hummable lyrics(especially the Maddham Maddham part) make the song pleasant to hear.

2) Nahin Saamne-Picturised on Akhshaye Khanna, this song from the movie Taal is slow with few instrumental bits put in. Its a melodious treat for the listener.

3) Tu hi re-From the film Bombay. 1 of the earliest works of Rahman and undoubtedly 1 of the best.Supposed to be an emotional song, Hariharan's singing gives it the right amount of emotional touch.

4) Dil Se and E Ajnabi-The title song with Rahman himself crooning the lyrics

is sung excellently.Rahman has a voice which can be best described as raw, but that's xactly what makes the song so great to listen to.

E Ajnabi-a slow song, with great lyrics and deep meaning embedded in them really touches ur heart

So gaye hain-Film- Zubeidaa. For lack of a better adjective I describe this song as'drifting'. A soft delicate melody. Rahman really outdid himself with this composition.

Saathiya-Actually its tamil version.slow, melodious at the same time energetic.Hindi lyrics didn't make sense however.inspite of the music being good.

Kandukondein Kandukondein-A tamil movie with Tabu and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. All the songs just emphasize on the fact that.Rahman's a genius. All the songs are good. My favourite being the title song. I have never heard any song like it.

Meenaxi-The song I like the most is Do kadam aur sahi. Its sung by Sonu Nigam. A very soothing song to be precise.

Hone do dil ko fanaa-Its from the movie Yuva. A fast peppy number picturised on Vivek Oberoi and Kareena.it includes the charecterstic beats that Rahman is so famous for.

Nazron ke milne se-From the movie Vishwavidhata. Its very well sung by Kavita Krishnamoorty and although the movie flopped miserably Rahman's music proved to be a winner, although I think he used the same for one of his tamil movies too.

The list goes on.songs from Roja, Dil Hi Dil Mein, Jeans are all examples of A R Rahman's immense talent. Hope than he continues to give us music that continues to touch our hearts.
