Movers and shakers of 2003!

Yeah! it's that time of the year to pay tribute to all those English songs that

kept me entertained through the year & kept me awake! on the ride to work & back.

1)   Where is the love - Black Eyed Peas

This song is a masterful mix of regular rap, meaningful

lyrics(for a change!)  and soothing melody!

It’s the conscious lyrics about how there is talk of love in the world but all the happenings hardly ever depict that,  that has brought much attention to this one, I guess!

I really loved the pace of the song, the rap and the lyrics!

2) Crazy in love - Beyonce

Well, whoever's been on the 2003 music scene and not heard of this one?

Almost every club & pub's been cashing in on the popularity of this one!

I was wondering what makes this one so special(apart from Beyonce's

grooving in the Video, that is!).

  • The song's got a very catchy musical piece that comes in the beginning

and oft-repeated through the song *(esp. during the lines'crazy right now')

that could be the reason for its captivating feel!

  • The catchy'Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no' of beyonce! * needs no

mention to those who've heard this one!

2) Shut up - Black Eyed Peas

The same band that gave the smash hit'Where is the Love'

comes up with this fast number.

Though the song is like any other fast one, it has a deep

melancholy strain associated with it, I think. which is why

it is so haunting!, especially the parts where the title line'Shut up'

is sung.

The song is about the dynamics of a relationship breakup & worth

listening to!

“Stop the talking baby

Or I start walking baby”

is my favorite line!

3) Ignition(remix)- R Kelly

This is the remix version of the song'Ignition' that sounds sooooo cool!

'Toot boot. beep beep'. crazy but cool sounds make this song a

surefire party number!

R Kelly's back with a bang and this's what hip hop's all about!

The video's hot too!

4) Intuition - Jewel

I loved this song right when it began with the lines

'la la la la.' beautifully hummed by Jewel!

She has really improvised on her way of singing, adding some stylistic variety,  from previous works like her'Foolish games' album of 1998.

But I really liked the title song'Foolish games' from that album * much more

  • than this one, for its haunting mood & powerful lyrics! Do check that one out too!

5) In da club - 50 cents

Hip hop galore!

Sounds like a gansta number!

The background sounds are a good innovation and add to the surreal feel of this

song.

Lyrics. well, it's hip hop, so you know what to expect!

And you get it!

7) Bring me to life - Evanescence

This song is haunting, to say the least.

As a big fan of Macabre compositions, I can't but help but wake up to this one!

I also like the heavy guitaring on this song. blends well with the mood

of this song!

The lyrics are also ultra cool, with * gothic images * presenting themselves

even before we get to see the video!

(The video is another masterpiece!)

A couple of other songs in this album, like'My Immortal' are good too, so it might be just worth buying this album!

8)

The Remedy(I won't worry) - Jason Moraz

an up-beat song, this one never fails to surprise, especially the lyrics!

  • The tune is terrific and the song keeps moving without a break, finally

breaking into a chorus'I won't worry my life away'.

Jason's voice is a major plus too!

Pieces of lyrics from the part I like best in the song:

'

.

I say the tragedy is how youre gonna spend the rest of your nights with the light on

So shine the light on all of your friends because it all amounts to nothing in the end.

I wont worry my life away.

I wont worry my life away.

'

'

9)

Hey Ya! - Outkast

Too good song to lift up your spirits!

And you don’t need  spirits to appreciate this one!

  • The background musicals for the lines'Hey Ya' * are enough to make

this song a great hit!

10)   Love me when I'm gone - 3 doors down

Fast paced, with a powerful tune backing it, the lyrics only add value to this great

song from the'Kryptonite' band! The only downside is I feel that the song seems to be in the same mode as their'Kryptonite' number.

This song seems to fit the situation of showing tribute to US troops abroad.

'So hold me when I'm here

Love me when I'm wrong

Hold me when I'm scared

And love me when I'm gone

'

If you need an introduction to 3 doors down, do check out their song'Kryptonite!'

(It shoulda been rather called * dynamite *, I should say!) from their 2000

album'The Better Life'.

Other worthy mentions:

  • Stacy's mom - Fountains of Wayne

. about a boy who has the hots for his girlfriend's mom!

The rythmic guitaring is just too amazing here!

Not to speak of the Video!;) .

  • White flag- Dido

The special part of this song that I loved the most are the lines'There will be

no white flag above my head'!

Clocks – Cold play

Here without you - 3 doors down

Shake ya tailfeather - Nelly, P. Diddy, etc

Unwell – Matchbox 20

Are you happy now- Michelle branch

All the things she said - TATU
