Though 2003 is not a great year for music lovers, it has it own share of a number of good songs. As I listen to both Tamil and Hindi songs, the list will be a miscellaneous of songs from both the languages.
- Aisa Jadoo – Khakee.
Though I personally prefer melodious songs, I cudn’t stop humming this song soon after the promos in T.V. This raunchy dance number by Lara Dutta is indeed infectious. Santhosi again proved that he si the king of item numbers. Remember Chamma Chamma, Aayiye Aajaayiye, etc…. hats off to the debut composer Ram Sampath. Wadha raha from this album also deserves a special mention. Awaiting eagerly for this movie.
9)Aankhon ne – Ishq Vishq.
A pleasant melodius number in this campus love story. A tuneful song by Anu Malik which catches attention in the first listen itself.
8)Devathaiyai Kanden – Kadhal Konden(Tamil)
One would wonder how does such melodious numbers fit in this psycho-thriller. But Yuvan Shankar raja does full justice by giving special kind of melodies. This song particularly has good interludes( I am mot awell-versed with different musical instruments) and a simple tune.
7)Suno Na- Jhankar beats.
Being a tribute to the musical genius R.D.Burman, this soundtrack boasts of a few melodious tracks. Hear this song, you will feel fresh even in the highly polluted cities of India.
6)- Dil Chura Liya – Nadeem shravan.
Can a list be without the melody kings Nadeem Shravan. Ofcourse, one cudn’t resist Aashiqui, pardes.etc… The song is a treat to the ears.
5)Oh Saathiya – saaya
I hope this is the least heard hindi song in this list. But this song is truly wonderful and the singers do full justice to the song. M.M.Kreem should consider doing more assignments in the future.
4)Ilangathu veesuthe – Pithamagan(Tamil).
The song is a welcome treat in this whole world of annoying rocks and pops. I think IlayaRaja is the least noticed musician in India. People in India couldn’t appreciate the first Asian to do Symphony. For non-tamilians, take a chance to hear IlayaRaja’s Sadma, How to Name it, Nothing But Wind and HeyRam. Also some of the super hits of Anand Milind and Anu malik are direct lifts of Ilayaraja’s tunes. Some of the examples:

Payali Chunli- Viraasat
O priya – Dil
Also, Ilayaraja is the undistiputed leader of film BGM.
3)Kal Ho Naa Ho – Kal Ho Naa Ho
What an amazing song. Can a song be so simple and yet infectious. The lyrics deserve a special mention here.
2)Jadoo hai Nasha Hai – Jism
Really a jadoo. Play this song in a silent dark room, you will know what this song is. Apt for candle light dinners. Shreya’s voice is nothing but a glass of honey.
1)Annalakshmi kannasacha – Virumandi(Tamil).
This song from the forthcoming Kamalhassan’s movie Virumandi is a tribute to tamil folk songs. Set in Madurai tamil, the whole album provides a variety of songs, out of which itz difficult to choose just one. I donno if non-tamilians could appreciate this album. Hope this movie is another devar magan(viraasat).
As 10 is very small a number, I would have left some of the good songs such as some numbers in KMG, LOC, Khaaka Khaaka(Tamil), Tere naam, Jay jay(Tamil), etc.
As it is melodies, which will stay for a long time, the list mostly consists of melodius numbers except a few. Comments welcome.
