When Karan Johar Calls Up Tusshaar Kapoor ...

This topic should be banned since it revolves around homophones.

Oops, I didn't realise. For a moment, I assumed that this topic is all about Karan Johar calling up Tusshar Kapoor, and having a cross-connection with a dinosaur called Dino Morea. Homos on the phone - homophones. Anything to do with homos must be banned as Bush wants it (and so do Shrub, Herb and Tree, for that matter). Then, I decided to employ the services of my cere-something (my biology is bad, I am talking about the brain!) and deduced that the topic is about homophones i.e. words which sound similar - 'Best Scenes I Have Seen' ...

'Best' is a relative term. I am the best, especially when I am the only one around. As Shah Rukh loves to croon with his hair gelled as if a gale is about to take place 'I am the best', others love to sing 'He is a pest'. Which is why, my choices will not appeal to most people. For here are ten cinematic moments which I have enjoyed. They may not claim to be masterpieces, but I have indeed enjoyed them.

When it comes to enjoyment, an insider tells me that Karan Johar's favourite scene is when Shah Rukh forgot to wear his jeans at the trial room in Shopper's Stop in Dil To Pagal Hai, but that's a different story altogether ...

Enjoyment is again a relative term and I seem to be sermonizing on the theory of relativity. But, owing to my nickname being Harry Potter and not Albert Einstein, I will refrain from doing that. What I mean is that although I enjoyed seeing Alok Nath's death scene in K3G (Kutta Kabhi Kamina Gham), it won't feature in my list of the best cinematic moments because in spite of the immense mirth I felt on seeing Nath dead, my heart still shuddered that the corpse might stand up, sharminda on seeing the people who have come to cremate him and ... you guessed it ... smile!

======================

Saif's confused, but what's there? - Dil Chahta Hai.

A killer. I have seen Dil Chahta more than 100 times to date. The only difference between a certain painter and me is that I do wear shoes. The hilarity when Sameer imagines the consequences of meeting Priya as he is late in giving her a call and his subsequent call to her is impossible to match.

''Haan mein, magar woh, sunoh toh, lekin mein, tumne toh, kab se ki!''

The piece de resistance is Aakash (mis)informing Priya that Sameer wasn't at his place. Great direction and great acting by everyone, especially Saif.

Adieu at the station - Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Not everyone may like this scene as Karan Johar is not a member of MouthShut, but I love the way this scene depicts Simran's realisation as she wants to stop time and wants to stop Raj (Kaun mein?), but is instead rooted to the spot, as the feeling that she is fallen in love slowly sinks in. 'Ho gaya hai', a beautiful number follows, and the effect is wonderful.

Castles in polluted air - Andaz Apna Apna.

A rip-roaring scene from a rip-roaring film. Amar almost convinces his father that they are going to be rich soon, and delighted at the proposition, the duo start dancing on the street. Aamir and Deven Verma are in top form, here.

Illusions of love - Kabhi Kabhie.

When Amitabh met Rakhee, bees saal baad. Amitabh painfully asks Rakhee how her married life has progressed and yearns that the good, old days come back when they were together, when all of a sudden, a melodramatic, yet entertaining Shashi Kapoor opens the curtains with a flash and pours his heart out while travelling in the jeep later.

A Rocking Drive - Saathiya.

This may not find favour with everybody as it's just a song. But, I love the way this flick begins with the titles rolling and 'O Humdum' playing in the background as Vivek Oberoi tests how resistent his hair are to gravity as he zooms on his bike. The song is one of my favourites and the way this scene is linked to the rest of the film later points to a well-written screenplay.

When Shakespeare sings - Angoor.

In a hilarious movie about two sets of twins who even have the same names, the scene wherein Deven Verma raps on the door with his knuckles and croons 'Preetam aan milo' is a howler!

The show must go on - Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.

My third SRK movie on the list (including Saathiya) and I can already see a few NR ratings by those who loathe people who have dishevelled hair, pudgy noses and speech defects. Yet, I loved the entire climax of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, which I maintain, is Shah Rukh's finest movie. The way he sacrifices Aana, the entire sequence of his dream repeating in real life and the subsequent scene which shows him grinning to conceal his tears is a wonderful example that life goes on ...

Don't MouthShut - Anand.

A beautifully conceptualised and directed scene, wherein Anand breathes his last and Babu Moshai weeps uncontrollably, demanding the erstwhile talkative Anand to talk to him. The viewer cannot help a tear coming to his eye and suddenly, one hears Anand's voice playing on the tape, uttering a dialogue which abounds in irony.

Sign mat karna - Satyakam.

Two scenes stand out from this flick. One, wherein Sanjeev Kumar learns that his friend is suffering from a terminal disease, and second, when Dharmendra hands over the signed paper to Sharmila, who tears it off, much to Dharmendra's joy. Great scenes from an all-time classic.

For safety's sake - Chupke Chupke.

An incredibly hilarious scene wherein Prashant, Kumar and Parimal meet, as Kumar as Parimal narrates to Parimal as Pyare Mohan how Kumar as Parimal has fallen in love with Prashant's sister who imagines him to be characterless as she thinks that Kumar is Parimal, who is no one but Pyare Mohan! Er ... watch the movie!

''Arre, mein to Prashant hi hoon.''

''To bataane mein kya hai? Bataane mein kya hai? For safety sake, mein woh bhi bataa doonga!''

Er ... kindly add all moments in which Kareena Kapoor sheds her clothes ...

It will just take a moment to tell me about your favourite moments, which are the favourite scenes which you have seen? Comments awaited!
