I've tried to quote the lines to the best of my abilities, please do correct me if you have the right words. :)

Though memorable scenes don?t always feature the two extreme emotions ? comedy or tragedy ? I?ve picked a majority of such scenes coz I believe that cinema that makes you cry with the characters and laugh with them, is the best kind there is. I?m an emotional fruitcake, so sue me! LOL

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (This one shares the honours for the top spot with the movie mentioned below.)

Scene: Ravi and Vinod race into a stage rendition of the Mahabharata while trying to throw off the goons following them.

USP: One of the most mad-cap use of dialogue and some class acting by the versatile NSD alumni. Just watch the ?Draupadi Vastraharan? or the ?koshish? thereof. I always thought that Drama school grads are real bores who just act in dark and mute movies. This one broke the mould and that perception for me.

Hera Pheri

Scene: Babu Bhai in a helmet and without glasses slams head-first into a beam and falls down head-over-heels. ?Babu Bhai dekh ke chaliye na!!? ?Arre ye!! Dikhega kaise?? Sar pe yeh matka hain na!!? (?Idiot! How can I see when I have this pot on my head??)

USP: The whole movie was one continuous laugh riot. This movie made me realise that Priyadarshan?s remakes do have a chance... only if Paresh Rawal happens to grace them all. LOL Believe it or faint, the Malayalam original was even funnier thanks to the punny way language was used. And while this is the wrong forum to be waxing eloquent about regional movies, I cannot rightly let it remain unsaid that regional flicks ? Mallu movies at least ? use the nuances of language to their advantage and sometimes, gags lose their punch when translated into Hindi. :) Hopefully, Priyan decides to remake the sequel to this one too since there?s already one in Malayalam.

Lamhe

Scene: The young Sridevi discovers some drawings done by Anil Kapoor that she mistakenly believes are pictures of her in traditional garb. Anil drags her into an upstairs room and throws at her all the memorabilia he has painstakingly collected years ago, all belonging to her mother. Watch Sridevi?s face for the devastation, pain, anger, betrayal, scorn that she feels in those few moments.

USP: Many people still shy away from this movie coz they say it has tones of incest in it. But I?d quote a line from this movie: ?Paalne aur palne mein bahut pharak hota hain Anita ji. Mujhe Dai-jaan ne paala hain, Kunwarji ne nahin.? (There?s a difference in bringing up someone and just paying for their upbringing. Dai-jaan was the one who brought me up, not Kunwarji.) Kunwarji was always, always a distant figure in Pooja?s life, never around when she was growing up. Where?s the incest?

Koi Mil Gaya

Scene: A teary-eyed Rohit asking God ?Maa kehti hain, paap karnewalon ko sazaa milti hain. Maine kaunsa paap kiya hain Bhagwan, jo mujhe sazaa mil rahi hain?? (Mom says those who are bad get punished. What have I done wrong dear God, that I?m being punished?)

USP: A beautiful movie about a man-child and a blue alien that gives him a chance at a normal life. Watch it. At least once.

Andaz Apna Apna

Scene: Amar and Prem meet on the bus and both try to pretend they are rich dudes and out-lie each other.

Scene: Amar ?patao?-ing (fooling-convincing) his father (Deven Verma) to shell out the moolah so that after he makes it big, they can open a ?choodiyon ki dukaan? (bangle shop). Great imagination!!

USP: Pure slapstick all the way. I think no one really expected such a lot of silly gags from actors of the Khans? calibre and that?s what made this a superb piece of comedy. Personally, one of my favourite Salman movies before he decided to join a nudist camp. My all time favourite piece of dialogue is in this movie ? ?Yeh Vasco Da Gama ka gun hain!? ?Kiske mama ka gun hain???!!!? And of course, the inimitable Crime Master Gogo! LOL

MPKDH (I?m sure everyone knows the full form, I can?t bear to type it in.)

Scene: The song ?Bhatke Panchchi? where dear Bebo prances around with something in her teeth.

USP: I sadly have to say that though this movie made me laugh, it did so for all the wrong reasons. The comedy made me grit my teeth till I have to now finance a small dentist?s practice for all the chipped enamel in my jaws. The ?emotional? scenes made me laugh so much that even remembering them makes me catch my sides and start shaking in mirth. Enough said!

Awaara Paagal Deewana

Scene: Paresh Rawal again. ?Manilal?. ?Manilal kaun?? ?Tumhara naam Manilal hain!!? ?Haan toh usme kya? Usmeiiinnn kyaaaa??

USP: Dancing Gansta meets Gujju Comedy Central. While it wasn?t exactly Gujju in flavour, Paresh Rawal was THE focus with his name-forgetting-and-mutilating habit, especially when clubbed with Johnny Lever. Chhota Chhatri becomes ? Kaju Katri, Tad Patri while Anmol can be anything ? Tol Mol, Bet Bol (Bat Ball).

Satte Pe Satta Nothing?s complete without a dose of the big B init.

Scene: AB takes some food onto a platter and sits on the back of chair and then lets loose his pack of rabid canines, also known as his brothers.

USP: A hatke kind of movie. Seven brothers living in a pig-sty of a home, no female around to keep house for them till Hema Malini makes them all toe the line. She makes them march out in stale undies to bathe and wash their clothes and of course, makes them sit to eat dinner rather than behave like rabid canines. LOL

Baazigar (This isn?t a funny scene.)

Scene: The climax and SRK?s subsequent dying scene.

USP: Baazigar was among SRK?s first appearances. A powerful performance, before he degenerated into the recent one-man three-ring circus. Throwing a girl off the terrace after cootchie-cooing with her ? the shock was immense, instantaneous and perfect. The movie ended with an unrepentant avenger but made me cry for the helpless mother and the blameless fiancée he left behind. He wasn?t sorry about what he did, but somewhere along the way he had really loved Kajol?s character.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge (This isn?t a funny scene either.)

Scene: Simran asking her father permission to go on a EuroRail trip with friends. ?Mujhe meri zindagi mein se kuch din dedo, papa?? (Let me have a few days from my life, papa.)

Scene: Simran is revealing her liking for this guy to her mom when she looks up to see her father?s outraged expression.

USP: While my father wouldn?t be roaring in fury at such a turn of events, he would object as strenuously as did Simran?s dad coz dads everywhere want what?s best for their little girls and so believe they can find a suitable life partner. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they need to give in to what their child wants. Kajol?s Simran made this one of my all-time favourites. I, of course, cried my eyes out and still do.
