All time Top 10

My list of all time 10 favorites is as follows:

1) Age Of Empires 2  - This is the best strategy game ever. The gameplay is superb and the complexity of the game intrigues and overawes you in the beginning. Slowly you realize the potential of the game and work your way through the ages with the civilizations. I have been playing this game ever since its first version was released in 1997. I have specially enjoyed the multiplayer mode although the single player computer AI is chic and keeps you occupied. I can still play this game anytime anywhere without getting bored. This is the KING of all games.

2) Max Payne 1 & 2– This game has redefined the third person shooter games. With its breathtaking environment textures, close to real life physics and matrix like bullet time mode are just too wonderful to describe. You have to play it to believe it. The only drawback of this game is the monotony that sets in due to lack of diversity in the opponent since only humans are involved unlike other fantasy games. But a dream action game nonetheless.

3) Call of Duty - This is a grossly underrated game and I couldn’t find it in many other lists for top 10 games. But I was amazed at the closeness to reality with the world war two of this game. The world of this game is simply amazing with the real backdrops from World War 2, this game has scenes from Europe. The player works in team which is assigned various missions to defeat the Germans(computer). You get to be a sergeant on foot, on truck, on ship, shooting with an anti air  craft gun, tip toeing across snow, driving a battle tank, keenly aiming though junk with absolutely wonderful sniper rifles, planting bombs in rail yards and what not. This game is simply amazing.

4) Undying One of the most frightening environments ever made, this game has that creepy feeling which will chill your spine. A but primordial graphics by today’s standards, but this game still intrigues.

5) Unreal Fast, non stop, action packed with loads of arsenal to shoot your enemies with, this game is a multiplayer heaven. The speed of this game is the key to its success. Really engrossing.

6) Blood - Another game I don’t commonly find in people’s list, this game was released in 1997. Again, ancient graphics by today’s standards, this first person shooter had the best gameplay you could imagine at that time. It is thrilling to play even today. The lead guy rises from the dear to kick some serious zombie asses with props like pitch fork and simple plain shotgun. In the process he also some intriguing weapons like skull-stick and voodoo doll to come over its enemies. Not to mention some really stylish one liners he shouts like: “Hmmmm! Single White Female” and “Get Off my train”. The overall environment is very creepy and haunting and the big bosses at the end of the episodes are really hard to deal with. An amazing game…!

7) Shadow Warrior - Contemporary of blood this one has a high entertainment value as the character is really funny and shouts very humorous one liners while throwing poison gas cans and firing rocket and grenade launchers at Chinese flavor enemies. Beware he even fires nuclear missiles ? Nice gameplay and good action.

8) Diablo - The game has one of the best environments in its category. Played in an isometric view(like Age of Empires), it offers very nice and elaborate inventory management to the player where he can keep his spell scripts, swords, axes, bow and arrows, gold etc. The detail of the damage of each weapon and the status of ‘Mana’ etc are very interesting to manage. The enemy skeletons, bats and zombies add to the creep.

9) Quake Series ID guys just did not stop at doom. They created quake which was even better. Again this does not stand comparison with today’s games in terms of advanced physics, dynamic lighting etc. but was the best game that ruled 5 years ago.

10) Half Life SeriesThis game had was a major upgrade of the games of its time in terms of AI and graphics. It was a shift to true 3D in FPS(earlier characters in FPS were animated 2D maps in a 3D environments). This game has a lot of fan following even now. Doesn’t hold the same charm to me as I prefer reality games like Max Payne to its bizarre alien world, but was very intriguing when I used to play it.
