The Terrific Ten

One day International Cricket has seen some terrific players. I started watching cricket right from my childhood days. But understood the game and its nuances probably some 6 or 7 years back. So I list the names of those cricketers whom I personally feel the best one-day cricketers I have seen till date.

1.Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar:

During one of the test matches, an Australian was holding a chart, which said, “I’ve seen God. He plays for India”. Such is the greatness of this man. With a Staggering record of 38 centuries and well over 13,000 runs, he is probably the most successful and consistent batsman to ever play the game. He is indeed a Demy god to many which includes me.

2.Michael G. Bevan:

He was just amazing in finishing the game. He was the best. Had the best average in one-day cricket, which was around 60’s sometime and finished of with the high 50’ s. Aussie Captain Steve Waugh, called him the best One Day player. His last ball four of Harper to make Australia win will be remembered for several decades.

3.Lance Klusener aka Zulu :

The most destructive player ive ever seen. Has the arrogance to dismiss any ball from any bowler from his crease. Makes a mockery out of the best bowlers in the world. Had great hand eye coordination. Would have single handedly brought his country glory in the world cup, but for his suicidal run out with Donald.

4.Aravinda De Silva:

A match-winning player. Played numerous knocks those made his side get back to a strong position from nowhere. Played one of his best knock’s in the 1996 World cup finals against the world champions Australians and sealed victory for his country. Has won several games with his clever off spinners too.

5.Adam Gilchrist:

Rated the most destructive player by the top bowlers of the world. Has the uncanny knack of changing the course of the game with his hard-hitting skills. He is very ruthless to anything short and plays with ease on both sides of the wicket. A great asset to the team.

6. Brian Charles Lara:

The best player of the Caribbean. The true successor of the great Sir G. Sobers. This man has several records to his credits. Plays spin and pace with great ease. The ace spinner Muralitharan Rates him the best player ahead of Sachin Tendulkar.Though his test record is way ahead of his one day record, its sill very impressive.

7. Inzamam-ul-Haq:

He is always cool as the cucumber. Never panics. Looks always composed at the crease. Amazingly always has lots of time to play his shots even against the fastest bowlers on earth. A great puller and cutter of the ball. He is know for is lazy elegance.

8. Sanath Jayasurya:

Changed the whole look of the one-day game with his explosive batting in the first fifteen over during the 1996 world cup.His batting cost a few people’s career, Manoj Prabhakar to name one. He is on the verge of reaching 10,000 runs in one day international cricket and has the most one day wickets fro Sri lanka second only to Muralitharan.

9. Mark Edward Waugh:

He was Australia’s most successful one-day player for a long time. There was a strong belief earlier that Australia would do well if Mark Waugh does well. The most elegant and stylish player. His leg side flicks were so world famous. Rhodes rates him as the best all round fieldsman.Terrific slip fielder.

10. Kevin Pieterson:

He is my latest favorite. He has been England’s find this season. Took the South Africans by storm with the staggering series against them. Has 3 centuries and four fifties already this season with a strike rate of 100 and average in the 80’s. It was amazing to see him take on bowlers of the class of Glen McGrath and Shaun Pollock. He is sure to become the most exciting cricketer for the future.
