THE REAL MCCOY. Review on Ten Best Movies of Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan the eternal superstar, bollywood's answer to redford, eastwood...Superstar of the millenium...really the media has had a difficult time finding new adjectives to describe the biggest superstar witnesseed in indian cinema....

Chosing 10 is a difficult job and so I came up with a plan...I made ten categories and for each category I picked up my fav amitabh film...here goes my choices

1.His best in a romantic role

Silsila:he plays amit a romantic poet who has to sacrifice his love for chandni(rekha)to marry jaya bachchan a girl to whom his brother was engaged...I believe this film was shot at a time when amitabhs and rekhas off screen romance was in a very passionate phase and well I am told by my mother that the scenario in the film was quite silmilar to scenario in amitabhs real life...though the film flopped it is considered a classic today for its unforgettable music and the brilliant performances....

2.His best in his second innings

Baghban:he plays raj malhotra,patriarch of a large family comprising of his wife Puja(hema malini) and his four sons...this film deals with the very basic problem of children abandoning thier parents in their old age...amitabh delivers a superlative peroformance and his sequences with hema malini are a delight to watch..the two veterans a hit pair in their time were dynamo on screen even in their new avtaars...

3.His best in an out and out comic role

namak halal:he plays arjun singh a waiter in a five star hotel in mumbai...amitabh shows trememdous comic timing in this film and well this film is also among my top five comedy films of all time....some scenes which have in splits everytime are ''english is a very funny langauge'' scene,the pag ghungroo baje song,his sequences with om prakash when he comes to the city...I tell you this film is a riot....

4.His best with yash chopra:

Trishul:he plays vijay,an angry young man whose mother (waheeda rehman) was abandoned by R.K Gupta(sanjeev Kumar) in her illness...amitabh is born out of wedlock...his only aim in life is to get even with rk gupta...amitabh delivers a knock out performance...This film brought two tremendous perofrmers sanjeev kumar and amitabh together on the screen and thier sequences dont diassapoint...especially the one where amitabh meets sanjeev kumar in his office for the first time...

5.His best with manmohan desai

amar akbar anthony:Bollywoods all time favorite lost-n-found film..this film was a total masala film with songs,comedy,action,drama,absurdities just about in the right measure....Amitabh plays Anthony,his most unforgettable character to date...Though this film had vinod khanna and rishi kapoor doing a fairly good job it was amitabh all the way....his sequences in the fornt of the mirror after his drinking is a scene which I guess must be etched in the minds of all amitabhs fans...

6.His best as an angry young man

deewar-Well what can I say about this film...after zanjeer amitabh was once again cast in the role of angry young man in yet another salim javed script...he enacts the role of vijay verma who becomes a smuggler from a porter at docks in order to earn quick money and give all the happiness to his mother...This mother-son saga is a benchmark in Indian Cinma and Amitabhs and Shashi Kapoors sequences have become immortal...Especially ''BHAI TUM SIGN KARTE HO KI NAHIN'' scene and ''TUMHARE PASS KYA HAI'' scene!!

1. His best with ramesh sippy

sholay:Well the GODFATHER OF HINDI MOVIES...this film,yet another SALIM JAVED script is said to have the most perfect script ever writen for a hindi film...Amitabh plays JAY an introvert and his character is in stark contrast to that of DHARMENDER's VIRU who is an extrovert...Well I guess no use talking about the story because all of you must have watched it umpteen times...I guess even my international friends must be knowing about this film...For me unforgettable were the YE DOSTI song and Amitabhs death scene,as well as his comedy scenes where he excels..

8.His best with prakash mehra

muqaddar ka sikandar:He is the big hearted Philantropist who helps everybody coming to him for help...But however he himself is bereaved because his childhood sweetheart(rakhi) doesnt realise his love for her...She instead loves Vinod khanna who is sikandars friend...Amitabh enacts the role of a tragic romantic hero with elan..and his death scene still leaves tears in my eyes..This film will also be remembered for Rekhas potrayal of zohra bai..And the songs especially ROTE HUE AATE HAIN SAB and PYAR ZINDAGI HAI...

9.His best with hrishikesh mukerjee

abhiman:playing husband to his off screen wife on screen Amitabh delievers a highly sensitive performance enacting the role of SUBIR a talented and a popular singer..This film deals with the Male ego and how a male ego is unable to handle his wife's success but how ultimately love prevails..Music is the high point of the film with songs like MEET NA MILA RE MAN KA,TERI BINDIYA,LOOTE LOI MAN KA NAGAR..Jaya Bachchan delivers an excellent peroformance in the role of UMA(amitabhs wife)..ASRANI is too good in the role of Amitabhs secretary-cum-friend

10.My all time fav amitabh bachchan movie:

DON are deewana mujhe pehchano...kahan se aya main hoon kaun...yes don has to be my all time fav.amitabh movie...amitabh in a double role is too good..and even today this film manages to thrill me..amitabh the don is killed in the initial reels...but his duplicate amitabh the simpleton is replaced by the police commisioner to trap the entire gang which worked for the DON..This film is very slick and Amitabh is too good in the action sequences...And the songs E HAI BAMBAI NAGARIYA and KHAI KE PAN BANARAS WALA are still the most popular songs of Amitabh..

suhaag, k3g, dev, kaantein, do aur do paanch, kabhi kabhi, kala patthar, abhimaan, mili

zanjeer, khakee, coolie, yarana, lawaaris, satte pe satta, great gambler...all of them were memorable films...
