  1. Aaoge jab tum( jab we met): pritam /ustad sultan: this movie had some great songs that made it to top of the charts this year, but one song which never made it to any list neither was played much on stations and channels happens to be my personal favorite of the year. ustad rashid khan’s voice is sheer magic. https://youtube.com/watch?v=uHY1yUU7zmQ

  2. Maa( taare zameen par): shankar-eshaan-loy: one more gem from shankar-eshaan-loy and this time shankar mahadevan renders his vocals as well. it’s definitely one of the all time heartfelt songs for me. https://youtube.com/watch?v=xErKMdHwr3E

  3. Maula mere le le meri jaan( chak de.india): salim - suleman: the first time I heard the song, it refused to leave me for days. I seem to have a connection with the word “maula” . I loved “maula mere” from anwar, “mere maula karam”  from khakhee and few others.i don’t have a video from the movie as it was played as a background for few seconds. video link 1: https://youtube.com/watch?v=J7lEXmOwjYU&feature=related.

video link 2: https://youtube.com/watch?v=2BDVsthBuoY&feature=related

  1. tere bina( guru): a r rehman: like any other rehman song this one takes time to grow on you. and once it grows it stays. that’s the magic of music maestro a r rehman.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=7VTL18uA0po

  1. dil kya kare( salaam-e-ishq): shankar-eshaan-loy: adnan sami’s voice makes complete justice to the music directors master piece composition. one song I never get tried of listening to…

https://youtube.com/watch?v=MyjbXz1Vlio&feature=related

  1. jhoom barabar( jhoom barabar jhoom): shankar-eshaan-loy: here’s shankar-eshaan-loy in their fun elements. and this song here is “the” fun song of the year. period.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=wrDmsmCOrJw&feature=related

  1. jab bhi cigarette( no smoking): vishal bhardwaj: this has to be the most unconventional song of the year. gulzar’s lyrics and vishal’s music create magic again, but the kind you never saw before from the duo. adnan sami adds to the feel. https://youtube.com/watch?v=I2dB2SRxGB4

  2. tere bin( delhi heights): rabbi shergill:no particular reason to like this one, but just feel good every time I listen to this song. https://youtube.com/watch?v=8pnPtfow7XY

  3. in dino( life .in a metro): pritam: this movie had some really good songs. if I had to pick 3 movies where every song was very well composed, then it would be “life.in a metro”, “jab we met” and “salaam-e-ishq” . https://youtube.com/watch?v=QDCDtaB7x6M&feature=related

  4. mein jahan rahoon( namastey london): rahet fateh ali khan

ah! finally the song that definitely is one of the top 3 songs of the year for me. the pain of lost is felt in the lyrics and the music. singer rahet fateh ali khan takes the song to a complete different level and makes this one a master piece. https://youtube.com/watch?v=MOtooSdiAOI&feature=related

few more that I like…

  1. kholo kholo( taare zameen par): shankar-eshaan-loy

couldn't resist adding one more song from the most versatile musical team of the year shankar-eshaan-loy and prasoon joshi. the line "tu dhoop hai, chan se bikhar" takes you to a complete different level. https://youtube.com/watch?v=oRRYIe7Fs8E

  1. khoye khoye chand ki talash( khoya khoya chand): shantanu moitra: this movie had some great compositions from shantanu moitra. the title song was my favorite not just for the music but for some great lyrics from swanand kirkire.https://youtube.com/watch?v=mNS3QzYDD0E

  2. saawariya( jab se tera naina): monty: monty's music was extremely beautiful for a debut music director. I am sure the credit goes to sanjay for bringing out the talent in him. this song here is my favorite from the movie for the music and shaan's voice. https://youtube.com/watch?v=8qzMnnU7n-c

  3. shauk hai( guru): a r rehman: a r rehman at his best. unfortunately the song was only played in the background for a scene and never featured as a complete song. nevertheless the composition remains my personal favorite from rehman this year. https://youtube.com/watch?v=k1vAu0c96yY&feature=related

  4. chak de india( chak de india) : Salim - Sulaiman

the patrotic song of the year. great composition from salim-sulaiman gets great vocals from sukhwinder singh

https://youtube.com/watch?v=nBdi3Cm1cLc

  1. tum se hi( jab we met): pritam: this is one more song I can listen to ‘n’ number of times and not get tried. It made a connection the very first time I heard it. I guess it has more to do with the kareena’s character in the movie. I totally loved it.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=9sUh4RBD-5E&feature=related

  1. jaane do na ( cheeni kum): illairaja: the musical genius illairaja returns to hindi after a long gap and though the music wasn’t really on the chartbusters I personally liked it and this song here is my favorite. https://youtube.com/watch?v=T8o9h3PcT4Y

  2. ajab si( om shanti om): vishal-shekhar: at their best when it comes to feel good music

https://youtube.com/watch?v=dPdtgcr-IcE

  1. sehlenge hum( 1971): akash sagar: a very well composed song from a new music director. shibani kashyap's voice was an apt choice for this song. https://youtube.com/watch?v=2q-TDNtOBwo&feature=related

  2. oh re pakhi( khoya khoya chand): shantanu moitra

for me this is sonu nigam's best song for the year. great composition from shantanu moitra and again swanand kirkire did great with words. audio link: https://esnips.com/doc/0cac9060-ad9c-40cf-b2fd-8a68143c7d75/O-Re-Paakhi-=-KHOYA-

  1. its rocking yara kabhie ishq to karo( kya love story hai): pritam: a perfect mix of the old classic and the new rocking number. the song is easy on your ears and yet makes you get up and join the floor. and if anything was missing, kareena does the needful. she has come a long way from painful to pleasure.https://youtube.com/watch?v=EB-3Lehh0Bw

  2. tere sawalon ke( manorama six feet under): raiomond mirza: raiomond mirza’s music and irfan siddiqui’s lyrics come together to create this beautiful song, which connects more when you see the song in context with the situation in the movie. https://youtube.com/watch?v=RCWJvHaENAs

  3. ek din( naqaab): pritam: though the song makes it for a good listening, the picturisation is pathetic. I am extremely disappointed with pritam for shamelessly lifting marc anthony’s song "when I dream at night".

https://youtube.com/watch?v=KgWSdwSCBek&feature=user

  1. move your body( jhonny gaddar): shankar-ehsaan-loy:song was more like a video for the movie. liked the mix of old melody and the new techno by extremely talented trio shankar-ehsaan-loy.https://youtube.com/watch?v=ew7EtZAucno

  2. naina neer( water) : a r rehman

a soulful song from one and only a r rehman. sadhana sargam does complete justice to this great composition. https://youtube.com/watch?v=gYQJur7TYSk&feature=related. audio link: https://esnips.com/doc/9d8675b4-8f25-421e-8094-0248e0c8ac69/Naina-Neer-Bahai
