A Word of Caution

This review may not satisfy all the sections of society. Each year many movies are released and no matter how the movie is(good or bad) yet there is at least one good song in every movie. Thus, it becomes a very intricate job to select only ten best songs when you can easily select 50 others, which may be as good as them. Thus, many good songs, which are as mellow as these fail to find a place here. But still to do justice to all the Hindi songs of 2004 I?ve decided not to select more than one song from any movie. And for expediency I?ve not included the songs of unreleased flicks. So here is my list of ten melodious songs of this year.

1. Bheegey Honth Tere(Murder)

Sung by Kunal Ganjawal this song depicts the vehemence of love making in a very stylish manner. The lover is inviting his beloved to come to him so that they can spend a memorable night together and make all their dreams come true. He is wooing her by praising her physical and inner beauty.

Kabhi mere saath,

Koee raat guzar,

Tujhe subah tak mein,

Karoon Pyar!

2. One Love(Rakht)

Sung by Shaan and Blue band, this without any doubt is the most foot tapping number of the year. It?s specialty is that in spite of being a romantic track it?s not slow like other Bollywood songs. Lyrics include both Hindi and English. The charisma of this song is such that I can hear it all day!

Kya Maine Socha, Aur Kya Hua,

Kya Dil Ne Chaha, Aur Kya Mila,

Ab Jeet Kaise, Aur Haar Kya,

Kispe Bharosa Aitbaar Kya!

3. Dhoom Machale(Dhoom)

One of the best songs of Sunidhi Chuhan till date! This song has a kind of energy in it, which can even inspire a paralyzed man to get up and start dancing! Great beats, great lyrics? great song(to say the least). It has been released in two versions? Hindi and English. Both are terrific. If you enjoy biking, the English version will persuade you to drive faster and faster(as it happens with me)!

Ishq Mein Har Pal Maza Hai,

Ishq Dhadkan Ka Nasha Hai,

Ishq Ki Galiyon Mein Aake Ghoom,

Dhoom Machale Dhoom Machale Dhoom!

4. Fanaa(Yuva)

When the singer is A.R. Rehman you can always expect the song to be ostentatious and this one is no different. Sunitha Sarathy and Tanvi have done a great job too along with him as co-singers. There is kind of folly(in good sense) attached with this song. It?s like you are going to live in this world with your rules and won?t care a damn about the norms! Just the feeling a youth of today experiences!

Fanaa Fanaa Fanaa,

Hone do Dil Ko Fanaa,

Hone do Dard Ko Tabah,

Urne Do Har Ek Wo Tamanaa

5. Voh Kaun Hai(Shadi Ka Ladoo)

Sunidhi Chuhan has done it again! She strikes gold with this adorable number. A young girl is waiting for her prince charming. She hasn?t seen him in real, but has made a shady photograph of his in her mind. Although she hasn?t met him yet, but still she can feel his presence everywhere. Waiting for your beloved is as romantic as being with him!

Maine Kabhi Dekha Nahin,

Uska Chehra Magar,

Phir Bhi Dil Ko Uska Ehsaas Hai

6. Sarki Chunariya Re(Run)

One of the best duet songs of 2004. Sung by Alka Yagnik & Udit Narayan, this one is an anarchic romantic track. Beats are wonderful and a bit fast than an average romantic song will have, and this fresh approach works in its advantage. Lyrics are pretty good too. It has all the qualities a good song must have.

Sarki Chunariya Re, Zara Zara,

Chamki Bijuriya Re, Zara Zara,

Koee Lagne Laga Hai Pyara,

Pyara Pyara Re, Zara Zara

7. Shukriya(Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabaat Hai)

Sung by Kunal and Runa this song is like a breath of fresh air to a suffocated man. This track is full of positive vibes. When you are down and out, have lost all hope, your mind is ominous & there is no way to go! Relax! Hear this song and absorb yourself into it completely! Soon you will feel that the dark clouds of depression are moving away and you are getting into a positive mode! And bingo you do find a way to your problem!

Shukriya Ho Shukria,

Aye Dil Tera Bada Shukriya,

Ek Nayee Manzil Hume Tu Le Chala Tera Shukriya,

Raste Naye Saathi Naye Payenge, Yeh Dil Ne Kaha

8. Nazar Nazar(Fida)

Sung by Udit Narayan and Sapna Mukherjee, it?s a very fast moving song. You have been searching for that someone special all the while and suddenly your eyes fall upon a stranger & you are mesmerized. You are too stunned to react and before you even realize she has disappeared. That someone special gave you a glimpse for just a single second. Now your quest begins!

Nazar Nazar, Dhoonde Usse,

Meri Nazar, Aayegi Ek Din Woh Mere Samne

9. Do Pal(Veer Zaara)

When two legends come together to sing a duet, the result can?t be anything short of mystical. Sonu Nigam and Lata Mangeshkar have put life into this song by singing it in a very poignant way. Lyrics are beautiful & the music touches your soul. How would you feel if you are given just two minutes to express whatever is in your heart for your beloved and then you two will separate never to meet again in this life! This song perfectly depicts the wretchedness of that moment!

Do Pal Ruka Khwabon Ka Karwan,

Aur Phir Chal Diye Tum Kahan Hum Kahan,

Do Pal Kee Thee Yeh Dilon Ke Daastan,

Aur Phir Chal Diye Tum Kahan Hum Kahan

10. Laal Dupatta(Mujhse Shadi Karoge)

The tried and tested duo of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik once again works here. A typical Bollywood song. Hero and heroine running around tress. Expressing their love to each other. Hero wooing his beloved. Heroine loving every bit of it and also accepting it in a shy way. Both talking about the magic of their love and expressing how special it is for them. You may consider this one a bit stereotype but that?s where its beauty lies in! Enjoy it guys, this is what Bollywood is all about!

Laal Dupatta,

Ud Gaya Re Bairi, Hawa Ke Jhonke Se,

Mujhko Piya Ne Dekh Liya,

Hai Re Dhoke Se
