Hindi movies produces more films a year than any other film industry in the world; Hollywood included.

From innumerable hit and great films, just to pick out 10 is a difficult task no doubt, but then that is the fun and challenge. So, here is my list of the 10 best Hindi films. I have made this list keeping in mind many characteristics of film making like; sensibility, entertainment value, performance, technical brilliance, script, story, social message.

The first on the list is none other than Sholay. The vast number of characters and their superb portrayal puts Sholay at the top of the list.

The second is Lagaan. What is so common between Sholay and Lagaan is that they had characters which cannot be forgotten, they are well etched in the memory of the viewers.

  1. Sardar. This film based on Sardar Vallabhai Patel's life is so difficult to make, it requires a lot of research and knowledge. Apart from that Paresh Rawal's performance is outstanding. This film shows how much our leaders loved our Country and the sacrifices they have made for the well being of India.

  2. Mughal-e-Azam. A classical epic saga and looking at the time when this was made, it was a herculean task with some great performances by Dilip Kumar and Prithviraj Kapoor.

  3. Mother India. One of the greatest woman-oriented film .

  4. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. The best black comedy film ever made in India.

  5. Pyaasa. Painful, heart wrenching film.

  6. Do Bigha Zameen. A classic film at any age. Balraj Sahni's acting skills make this more special.

  7. Guide. A beautiful adaptation of a classic novel.

  8. Mr. India. A hilarious film for all ages, great and simple visual effects, nice message, and great performances by Anil Kapoor and Sridevi.
