Every year thousands of movies are produced by Bollywood but as far as the quality goes, the less said the more better! We are just high in quantity and nothing .But still there are some films which are great! Here goes my list of 7 such films because I was not able to find 3 more movies which are great for me!
1.VEER-ZARAA
This one is a true classic! The movie was extra ordinary in just about every department .
But the real star of the film was Yash Chopra . He handles the extra-large canvas and cast with a pulsating panache. The hectic heaving lurching but steady narrative never allows us to dwell on the absurd and wild liberties taken with time and space . As Chopra transports his characters from Pakistan to India , he makes sure the film doesn't stick to that jaded concept of Pak bashing.
A great deal of the film's compelling conviction comes from the actors.SHAHRUKH KHAN was at his best .Rani lived upto her name .Preity Zinta was outstanding in her own space .And the National award which it has got proves that its the best!
2.BLACK
Another Rani Mukerji film! Among the films of today BLACK stands tall with its outstanding display of human power . Barring some inconsistency, BLACK' is almost flawless .
Above all it is stunning performances from Amitabh Bachchan and more importantly, Rani Mukherji which make this film very special. Notice Rani's breakdown at dinning table when Sara starts to yell about the fact that she was ignored . As for Amitabh, the sheer consistency with which he portrays a complex character like Devraj - his body language, his mannerisms, his voice modulation and the entire personality of a well determined teacher - is outstanding.
Truly, the best Sanjay Bhansali film!
3.KAL HO NAA HO
Another Rani Mukherji film though in special appearance! Most films, which deal with protagonist suffering From fatal disease, tend to get too preachy and therefore uninteresting. KAL HO NAA HO' is exceptional because it gets the message across and touches a chord deep inside .Director Nikhil Advani surprises with his directing skill which was terrific .But the film was undoubtedly a triumph for Preity Zinta who gave that extra sheen to character of Naina.
And rightly deserves all the award she got for it! SRK was good but SAIF was just about passable .
4.SATYA
This RGV production was a masterpiece which was a trendsetter for all gangster movies .The film was quite unique during its time as it was first movie of this kind .Manoj Bajpayee was a delight in his role ditto for Shefali and Urmila .The dialogues were hard hitting, cutting and ironic but not over-burdened with polemics. The background music was so delicately done that it's almost invisible. Unfortunately, none of RGV's recent work COMPANY and SARKAR were close to this one .
5.LAKSHYA
The film was refreshing change from usual Bollywood films .Hrithik Roshan was brilliant as a confused guy who is uncertain about his future . Apart from Hrithik if there was any other hero in'Lakshya' it was cinematographer Christopher Popp. The peaks of Ladakh and the ruins of Delhi were projected into the plot with an elan .There was inevitability that suggests a link between emotional topography and geopolitical reality.Truly amazing film .Far better than Farhan's DIL CHAHTAA HAIN!
6.MUNNABHAI MBBS
Munnabhai MBBS is a total value for money! It is one of those few bollywood films doctor prescribed for viewing pleasure! This one is best comedy produced by Bollywood ever .Sanjay Dutt as Munna Bhai was a treat wheras Arshad's circuit act was terrific .But real show stealer was Mamu MAmu BOMAN!
While other Hindi filmmakers are busy remaking Hollywood and South Indian film, this is one film that is going the other way round and has become a trendsetter. That is the film is being remake in Hollywood .At present, we can only wait for MUNNABHAI MEETS MAHATMA GANDHI .
7.THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH
This film was a box office disaster but despite this it can not be denied that one of the most brilliant film in history of Indian cinema .Ajay’s performance in TLOBS was worth winning National awards. Rajkumar Santoshi was extra ordinary in making a magnificent life portrayal of the legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in a very lucid but effective way.The climax was most memorable part of the whole film . TLOBS had a few melodious songs like'Mera Rang De' and'Pagdi Sambhal Jatta' which added to further magic of the film . The background music was too good and requires a special mention.
