What a difficult task is this? I mean, look at the 'honorable mention' list which is not at all as comprehensive as it should be. One can come up with several of 10 Best Movies lists.

Honorable Mentions: One who flew over coocke's nest; Bridge on the River Kwai; Gladiator; Silence of the Lambs; Schindler's List; Gone with the wind; Seven; As good as it gets; Saving Private Ryan; Dumb & Dumber; For a few Dollars more; The Platoon; The Longest Day; Rocky 1; Crimson Tide; The class action; LA Confidentials; The Great Dictator; E.T; Gandhi; The Great Escape, Where Eagles Dare; Pelican Brief; Pretty Woman; Erin Brockowich (Julia Roberts); The Training Day(smashing Denzel W), Die Hard; Operation Condor(Jackie Chan: Personal Favorite); & many more.

1-August-2004:(Removed Terminator 2 that was at #7, replaced it with Die Hard)

The ten movies selected below are a Must see & also a must for your collection. You will never regret the money spent on these, rather it would be the best purchase you made for entertainment. Honorable mentions are also worth seeing multiple times. It is impossible to include all of them. Hope you like the selection. There are a few I think I have not seen yet that are also all time greats.

_____________SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION_____________

Deserves a separate review. Planning to write soon. Morgan Freeman could be the most consistent actors of all times. He has never disappointed, whatever the movie & his role, this guy is highly thorough. This movie is a storytelling sort & we see it through the eye of his character (Red). Tim Robbins is also at his best. Wonder why this movie didn't earn them Oscars. Some birds aren't meant to be caged, their feathers are too bright

_______________A FEW GOOD MEN_______________

Complete Review: You can't handle the truth: https://mouthshut.com/readreview/54545-1.html

_______________SCENT OF A WOMAN_______________

Yaba daba doo! A masterpiece from Al Pachino. Fantastic job by the great actor. Playing a blind retired colonel he portrays his state of mind perfectly. The final appearance in the school is something nobody can forget. his crashing of Thanksgiving at his elder brother's home is also memorable & exposing his inner-self. 'Are you blind, then why do you keep holding my hand?'. His stunt with the Ferrari & then acting when the cop gets hold of his. Chris(?) has given the perfect appearance in his role, as good as great Pachino's.

_______________THE GODFATHER Trilogy_______________

My father gave him an offer he couldn't refuse Need I say more about this great epic? Almost everyone has read/seen these movies. The first one is a clear winner compared to the next 2. I also liked the part3 more than the 2nd. Brando, Pachino make this one all time great.

_____________The GOOD The BAD The UGLY_____________

An all time great western. Pictured on the background of the civil war. 'Every gun makes its own tune!' This movie makes a very fine tune! :)

_______________AIRPLANE_______________

The mother of all comedies! This is one movie you are bound to miss hundreds of jokes just because you laughed at one a little longer. You got to see this movie if you have not already. You are missing an all time great comedy otherwise. The pilots (Roger, Roger, Victor, Victor; The 'drinking' problem, The gay? guy at the control station creates havoc. Various hilarious quick jokes scattered throughout the movie.

_______________DIE HARD_______________

Deserves a special review. This is my all time great action movie. Have watched it countless number of times. If anyone can't find a partner to watch this movie gimme a holler, will be there! Like it so much due to the drama/tension maintained throughout the movie. The way movie takes shape with Bruce W's (John McClain) travel to LA & then to Nakatomi Towers trying to patch up with wife (Ms. Generro!) to the entry of the terrorists: Hans Gruber is just too good!!!

The movie shows the power of the common man/cop & how can one make a difference. John McClain whenever you appear a new movie say Die Hard 5, 6 or 100, I WILL BE THERE to support you!! :)

_______________12 ANGRY MEN_______________

'Drama' at its best. The jury start discussing a case & only one man thinks that there is a possibility about the accused being innocent. Marvelous acting & perfect dialogs & the plot make it is a treat to watch. How personal priorities affect the decision making process, how every juror starts developing interest & one by one they start changing their opinions. We had a remake of this movie in Hindi (Ek Ruka Huwa Faisala) where Pankaj Kapoor gave an extraordinary performance.

_______________FRANKESTEIN_______________

Chosen here for the sheer significance of this movie. Wanted to select at least one horror sort of movie. This one fits the bill of a bing a horror & at the same time being a classic.

_______________FOREST GUMP_______________

Tom Hanks created waves by getting oscars in a row for Philadelphia & Forest Gump. This is a wired genius sort of a movie. This is Tom Hank's best performance in my opinion. The emotions he displays after he knows that he is the father of little Forest Gump ('I named him after his father') are something to treasure. His journey from different years & different incidents is very imaginative & original. After this run for several days he says 'I am tired, think I will go home!' :)

_____________TERMINATOR 2: The judgement day_____________

One of the first major movie of all the graphics/special effects along with Jurassic Park. This movie also displays a very good interaction with the boy & the robot. Their dialogs are used by writer's) as the tool to convey their thoughts. Arnold act & looks like a robot in all the films so he was the perfect fit! :-) James Cameron was always perfect when it came to presentation, photography & technology. In this movie the story being fiction doesn't require much of a drama or thinking & he gets away with it. He couldn't when it came to Titanic.
