If you were to look up for the best Hollywood movies of all time in the history books, chances are you may find some of the names mentioned below. I know that not many of my friends here in Mouthshut will agree with me but believe me………..they are among the very best.
Ok,let the cat & mouse game begin.
1)Braveheart(Action):Braveheart is one of the best patriotic film of all time. It deals with real human qualities of honor, dignity & pride. This film conveys the message that “freedom is our birth right & we should have it”. A sizzling performance by Mel Gibson assured that Braveheart at least receive a couple of Oscars. The film is exquisite in its melding of romance, political intrigue & some of the most effective battle scenes I've ever watched.
2)The Ten Commandments(Mythological): The Ten Commandments is an epic saga of Mosses who demands freedom of his people (Jews) from the cunning & ruthless rulers of Egypt (Pharaoh). To say that the direction & acting in this film is extraordinary is to say that Everest is just a bit tall. On the whole it is relatively a must see film for everybody.
3)Lion King(Animated film):Lion King is a Walt Disney cartoon film. The story revolves around father & son relationship & the ascension of the young lion Simba to the throne of his father. It’s a true work of masterpiece & a very good family film. Lion King also won 2 Oscar awards,one for best original song & the other for best original score.The songs in this cartoon film is among the very best & believe me….. the non-stop action in this film is guaranteed to keep you glued to the screen.
4)East is East(Comedy):This story in East is East is about a Pakistani man who tries to bully his children into a Muslim upbringing but fails miserably.Though,he himself has an English wife he wants his sons to marry some Pakistani girls(women to be more obvious).His English wife Ella is torn between her obligations to her husband & her own desire for the children's happiness.East is East is genuinely smart, hilarious, & touching film.It’s a must see film for every American Born Confused Desi.
5)Gladiator(Action):I don’t think any other actor would have done justice to Gladiator like Russel Crowe did. Even with it's the simple, straightforward story Director Riddley Scott has made an epic saga of a lone warrior. The gladiators are seen fighting like our modern day WWF wrestlers but unlike today’s wrestling, the violence was real in the ancient Roman Empire.
6)Sixth Sense(Suspense thriller): Sixth Sense conveys the message that “not every gift is a blessing”. Directed by Manoj.N. Shyamalan, it’s starred Bruce Willis & Haley Joel Osment.Here, the 8yr old Haley Joel Osment sees dead men walking around him. Bruce who plays the role of a child psychologist tries to uncover the ominous truth about Haley Joel’s supernatural abilities. It is a very interesting film with an even more exciting finish in the end.
7)ET(Sci-Fi): ET is story about an alien from outer space who is stranded on earth & befriended by a 10yr-old boy & his brother. Directed by Steven Spielberg, its leading stars are Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore & Dee Wallace.ET deals with human experiences like emotions, love, friendship & loneliness. It was one of the first Hollywood movies that asked us whether we are alone in this universe or not.
8)Erin Brockovich(True life story): Erin Brockovich is a real life story about a woman who files a case against the Goliath public utility that had for decades knowingly poisoned its water supply in her home town. A sizzling performance by Julia Roberts assured her the Oscar for the best female actor. Julia was truly excellent in this movie - funny, quick, strong. It is a kind of film that gives out the message that “one should not let our self get dominated by others”.
9)Cast away(Adventure): The story is about Tom Hanks who survives a plane crash & lives for four years on a deserted island. An excellent performance awarded Tom his much-deserved Oscar nomination but he didn’t win eventually. In the major part of the film Tom Hanks talks only to himself as he is stranded alone on a deserted island. This film shows us that “where there is a will there is always a way out”.
10)Titanic(Tragic romantic Story): Based on a real life incidence Titanic is a story about a poor boy who falls in love with a rich girl. Director James Cameron did a tremendous job along with his actors. The film won 11 Oscars & broke every kind of Hollywood record. It’s a very tragic kind of romantic film that shows that true love comforteth us like sunshine after rain.
