BLACK shadows everyone else !
Jul 25, 2006 01:25 PM 3775 Views

2005was a good year for the cine goers. the big b was back in form where as SRK's only magnum opus PAHELI bombed at the b-o. here is my pic of some good films of 05 :-

1. BLACK

arguly one of the most haunting cinematic experiences of all time. everything to dialogues, performances, music and photography were in perfect sync with the essence of the film. the director creates some great moments, thanx to a great team work. the performances by amitabh and rani will be seldom matched ever again.

2. PARINEETA

parineeta is a simple story with an xtraordinary treatment set in the 60s. lolita and shekhar come to life as they discover their love breaking all rules and please all our senses [ earthy colors and path-breaking melodies ] sanjay dutt compliments very well as saif ali khan, vidya balan and oh yes, sabyasachi chakravarthy prove to be the joint scene stealers of this endearing melodrama.

3. IQBAL

nagesh kukunoor, following in hrishi da's footsteps, picks up real stories, keeps it with an in-your-face approach and succeeds in moving us. no songs and dances, no pot boiler quotient, iqbal is pure cinema. despite of a comparatively minor role, naseeruddin shah performs with an intact naturality as shweta prasad and shreyas talpade happily support him. a gut wrenching movie about the dreams of a common indian and his tete-a-tete with the reality

4. PAGE 3

refreshingly different, page 3 depicts the darker side of entertainment, showbizz, politics and their interlink. konkana sen sharma is very authentic as the protagonist. madhur bhandarkar hits the bull's eye once again with a hard hitting plot and an entertaining presentation. a riveting screenplay plays a major part in creating a strong impact.

5. BLUFFMASTER

actually, rohan sippy proves to be the real bluffmaster as he surprises all of us with his amazing direction talent. a witty screenplay and somewaht ribaid one-liners bring the film to a different genre altogether. performances by riteish, AB jr., nana and boman irani are quite perfect. a must watch.

6. SOCHA NA THA

One of the most refreshing love stories of modren times. the story begins with an unusual plot and grudually fledges into a complex teenager romance affair. ayesha takia shows promise ad so does abhay deol. the narration is mind blowing and dialogues authentic. director imtiyaz ali has miles to go as he displays great execution skills. great flick....

some other commendable films to hit the screens last year are :-

1. BUNTY AUR BABLI

[ strengths : performances by all, great musical sequences ]

2. PAHELI

[ strengths : amazing cinematography, path-breaking story line ]

3. HOME DELIVERY

[ strengths : subtle screenplay, natural performances, deep soul ]

4. SALAAM NAMASTE

[ strengths : mature performances, great colors, modern subject ]

5. MANGAL PANDEY

[ strengths : aamir khan, toby stephens, a haunting ambience ( music included )

6. APAHARAN

[ strengths : ajay devgan, nana patekar ]

i m sorry that I couldnt catch HAZAARON KHWAHISHEIN AISI, MY WIFE'S MURDER and VIRUDDH and so couldnt add them to my list. but I m sure they would be dead-on. as far as SARKAR goes, it was an over-rated film with an overdose of pregnant pauses and shadowed frames.

hope u liked my review. comments and ratings eagerly awited.

till next time
