Indian Cinema has been blessed with many great directors. To name a few- Satyajit Ray, Guru Datt and other such gems. But this review is not about these legends. This review is about the directors who have made their mark in the recent years. Some of them are young and very talented others are oldies but they have always been I the hearts of today’s generation.

1)  Sanjay Leela Bansali

His first movie Khamoshi may not have been a hit but he made his mark in Bollywood as a good director with his debut. Then came Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which made him as popular as any great director in hindi cinema. Devdas was the movie which made me believe that this director is a diamond shining too brightly and he is going to hide the others with this light. His recent success Black proves that he is the best both in Bollywood and Hollywood

2)  Yash Chopra

The king of love legends. He has his imprint in every person’s heart. Starting from Waqt till Veer-Zaara he has excelled in every one of his movie. He also made Amitabh Bachchan very popular by directing movies like Deewar, Trishul and others. He made Shah Rukh Khan what he is today with movies like Darr, DDLJ and Dil To Pagal Hai. We wish he keeps on touching our hearts with his love stories.

3)  Farhan Akhtar

Dil Chahta Hai, one of my favourite movies, was written and directed by this man. Like father(Javed Akhtar), like son. Dil Chahta hai was super hit on the box office. His next film, Lakshya, may not have been good at box office but I am sure that whoever has seen this movie knows that Farhan Akhtar is a genious.

4)  Ramgopal Varma

Satya, Company, Bhoot, and now Sarkar all, the most astounding movies, each portraying its own uniqueness. This man is an experimenter. He gives chance to new directors and makes movies on odd topics and keeps on taking risks.

5)  Karan Johar

The promos of his first movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” made me believe that it was a yash chopra movie but it turned out to be the debut of a new talented director Karan Johar, the son of an esteemed filmmaker Yash Johar. Since then he has made K3G and Kal Ho Na Ho both of which have been super hits. He has a bright future ahead him.

6)  John Mathew Mathan

He is the director of the Aamir Khan starrer Sarfarosh. I don’t know much about him but what I have seen in this movie is that he is a perfect director. It is difficult to find a flaw in his scenes. I hope we get to see more of his movies.

Others worth mentioning are Rajkumar Santoshi(Damini, Andaaz Apna Apna, Khakee), Rakesh Roshan(Karan Arjun, Koyla, Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya), Shimit Amin(Ab Tak Chhappan [debut movie]), Rajkumar Hirani(Munna Bhai MBBS [debut movie]).
