Here goes my top ten authors. This is my list and in no way is it meant to degrade other authors. Just that I feel, these guys have made a mark in our lives. Maybe with one book or a multitude
Harper Lee - To Kill a Mocking Bird - Narrated through the eyes of a young boy, this book talks about the views of 2 young kids and their father in a racial community. The father being a lawyer takes up the case of a young black in a predominant white community, falsely accused or rape. For a child the racial discrimination is something that has no meaning. A dont put me down book, written in simple english.
Ayn Ran (system does not allow me to put the full name) - One of the most prolific writers to come out of Europe and this shows on her book, which is full of Capitalism and Marxism. Born in Russia and settled in the US, Ayn talks about objectivism in her books. Famous in her books are Atalas Shrugged FountainHead We the Living Anthem. She is renowned for her essays which details her philosophy of life
Louis L'Amour - Cant live without this man. As for me, he is the best when it comes to Western novels, better than J T Edson. His famous Sackett series is best remembered
Arthur C Clarke - Serendipity, Sri Lanka, Rama thats what is Clarke known for. One of the best science fiction writer of the century, Clarke has been instrumental in driving sci fi into the general readers.
Ray Bradbury - Maybe, this is one person, who can beat A.C. Clarke, his best books are Farenheit 451, DandelonWine and his collection of short stories. Ray has a flair of writing, which can be surpased only by Brian Aldiss.
Tom Clancy - Red Storm Rising...and Jack Ryan, Tom has a style of writing which will keep you at the edge of your seat. Highly descriptive, Tom has actually spent a lot of time studying the US submarines and their way of working and operations. His latest Red Rabbit has been released, waiting to read that
Agatha Christie - Marple, Poirot two most famous characters in this lady's prolific novels, the mistress of crime, she has been a storm in this area with Edgar Allen Poe, Collin Dexter and Arthur Connan Doyle
Satyajit Ray - Feluda - the small town detective who keeps springing surprises every now and then. Ray's short stories are catch with a twist at the end, a la Archer, but I shall not say that, cause u can never compare Ray to anyone
R.K.Naryan - Malgudi, Swamy and that is what Naryan is famous for. His little town of Malgudi has become so famous that I have had a couple of my friends in US asking to see how to get there
Enid Blyton - How can I forget this lady of child fiction??? Famous Five, Seven and several short stories, this has been my all time favourite and as such she is the best of my childhood fiction days
I have left a lot of people out of this list, authors who are the most famous at this point of time, but for me these are my top ten
Hope to get brickbats and roses for these :)
cheers
