Hire the most desirable and gorgeous actress in the industry, make her lose a few kilos and clothes, compose a sensational video and build up the hype. Next, take the same oh-so-delicious starlet to every channel, program, city and country to further build up the craze around her. Now, because no audience will pay for watching just a 10-minute song, build something like a story for the remaining 1 hour 50 minutes to complete the two hour package. Eureka! You have Tees Maar Khan (TMK)!!

Farah Khan’s last two directorial products were out and out masala films. But still, they had reasonable story lines. Om Shanti Om was perhaps the spiciest of them all. But TMK is a dud right from the start. At no point in this 2-hour long film you feel like believing in what is going on. Akshay plays a thief who can not be jailed, Katrina plays a bimbo (quite well, actually) and the director plays with your patience. The highlight of the film – the song Sheila Ki Jawani – is over within the first 30 minutes and you are left with dimwit dialogues and insipid performances.

Because of the incredible hype built around the film, it may well recover the cost and may still be counted as a hit. Both Akshay and Katrina are dependable stars to bring in the footfalls; but with every such rubbish film they are slowly losing out on this ability. Last time, they successfully pulled off another trash Singh is King (it was the year’s biggest hit!). This time around, it looks difficult.

Akshay wants to loot a train carrying antique pieces with the help of 300 plus villagers. He fools them into thinking that the looting is a sequence in the film being shot and accomplishes the task. Not a bad story to begin with. But the writers completely mess up with the flow. The only small plus point in this script is the mockery of the Indian obsession with the Oscars. A few well directed digs are taken at the Indian filmmakers’ mentality of exploiting the poor India image for winning the Western judges. But that’s about it.

Akshay Kumar plays well on his home turf. Akshaye Khanna reasonably caricatures the Oscar obsessed perfectionist actor. And now, to the real crowd puller doll – Katrina. She looks absolutely edible in every scene and it is hard to take your eyes off her. The song Sheila Ki Jawani is the only plus point in this entire film and it shows that she has worked extremely hard at it. And she also does look and act like a bimbo in her scenes.

It is hard to recommend any aspect, sans Kat, for anyone to watch this film. You may as well download the song and watch it on a mega LCD television set. Rest all is trash.
