Director: Farah Khan

Story: Sirish Kunder

Music: Vishal-Shekhar

Last year, a movie got released during Christmas which took movie-making as well as movie-watching to such a level that within a few weeks of its release it became a cult movie and one of the very best that Bollywood has ever produced. This year another movie got released during the same time but unfortunately, this might not live up to the standards set earlier. Rather this is a bizarre piece of work which will click(If at all) only because of the performances of its Lead Actors.

'Main Hoon Naa' was lovable, 'Om Shanti Om' was ok but 'Tees Maar Khan' just does not appeal. Farah Khan is not doing any good to her Career as a Director by making such movies. She believes that she can throw anything to the audience and they will catch it. Agreed, there are a few funny moments captured quite well and both the Akshayas(Kumar and Khanna) give a decent performance expected from them but this movie is just a collection of illogical, insensitive, mindless, cheap anecdotes that

are not even funny enough to hold the audience attention. At times, they look ridiculous, forget about making people laugh. Of Late, an umpteen number of comedy movies have been made which can be termed as mindless but each movie has a direction and a purpose and they generally are funny/sensible enough to make the audience stick to his seat.

A pregnant lady is too fond of con movies and watches a lot of them and thereby infuses the art of stealing into her child(Akshaya Kumar) even before his birth aka Abhimanyu who upon growing up turns into a Master thief(Half Robinhood as has been mentioned in the movie). This guy is given the task to loot a train full of Antique statues/Jewelleries worth crores(500 Crores to be precise). Half of the movie is all about how he manages to steal the antique things with the help of the residents of a Village(Dhulia) through which the train passes. He makes the villagers to believe that they are a part of

a movie that is being shot in their village. He also ropes in Akshaye Khanna(An Oscar-Aspirant Superstar) to make things look more realistic.

Farah Khan had once said that Sirish had taken 2 years to write the script. The story certainly did not reflect the effort a wee bit. Its perfectly fine to make commercial Cinema but I guess there has to be a limit to everything and you cannot show anything you want by wrapping it with things termed as creativity. A lot of movies fail at the box office but as long as the effort is there, it should be appreciated. As far as I understand, movie-making is an art and it is all about how creative a person can get and how much thought is given into putting the director's vision onto Celluloid. Not every experiment succeeds

but what disappoints is when not much thought is given into movie-making.

Enough of ridiculing the movie! Now let's go into the few postives that the movie showcases. 'Sheila ki Jawani' stands out amongst the ruins. A Superbly picturised and choreographed song with Katrina Kaif looking absolutely sensuous, sexy and gorgeous(Unki Jawaani phut phut ke nikal rahi hai). Akshaya Kumar is repetitive but fantastic and as expected is the main cog around which the movie revolves and along with Akshaye Khanna, the saving grace of the movie. You can actually feel

the honesty in the efforts put by Akshaye Khanna. Katrina Kaif solves the purpose for which she had been cast in the movie. What were Raghu and Rajiv doing in the movie? They had created such a superb angry young man image for themselves who sent shivers in the MTV Roadies Camps but they are not doing any good to their image by taking up such roles. Vishal-Shekhar have done a decent job with the music. Farah Khan sincerely needs to put some thoughts in the way she handles a movie. Even though it was suppose to be a comedy but even that has to be well thought out and properly executed. And finally one good thing about Sirish- The background score is superb and laudable.

Rating: I am going with 2/5 for the movie primarily because of the performances of its Lead Actors-Be it acting or Item Songs!!!

Cheers-
