Technology is here…, but are we ready for it

The age of electronics is here. From mobiles to DVD players, from LCD Television to smaller computers, From Microwave to hi-tech ACs , gadgets have taken place in every facet of our lives. These devices have made our lives easy & comfortable.

The younger generation has well adapted itself  to technology, teenagers are seen with mobiles, Youngsters roam around with laptops & Mp3 players. But the older generations are trying hard to keep up with pace. The younger generation have made technology a part of their lifestyle while the older generation are ignoring it.

Take the case of my friend Priya, a typical teenager, Chats with her friends on the net after coming from college, & sends e-mail to her cousins, But her mother, Laxshmi corresponds to her relatives by sending letters & postcards. “These children have been using computers since childhood, but I find it difficult to switch ON a computer & type.” This is the scenario in the most of the households.

The other reason for avoiding technology is less user-friendly.The gizmos have become smaller but complicated.Mobiles with inbuilt camera, only increases the confusion.Cramming more features in a small device decreases its usabilty.

Cost also adds up as a big negative factor. Many of today’s gizmos are well beyond a normal person’s affordability.A good camera can be purchased for around Rs.4, 000-Rs.5, 000 but a good digital camera would be around Rs.10, 000-Rs.15, 000.

The biggest obstacle is unwillingness to adopt new technology, to change for a better alternative.

But every coin has two sides, and so does technology. If the elder generation  is ignoring it, the younger generation is getting addicted to it.Teenagers seem to be affected the most, they spent most of their time in front of computer either surfing or playing games which lasts for hours. This is very unhealthy as they don’t care much about studies.

The reason generation next is opting for technology is because their learning speed is very high and they easily adapt any new technology. Futhermore they have a thirst for Knowledge and so they spend hours on Information Superhighway.

Much time is also spent on chatting which is highly addictive and time wasting. Sitting in front of computer affects the health of a person.Backpain, eyepain are common symptoms.Lack of exercise affects the health adversly.

So OVERUSE and UNDERUSE both are not feasible for technology. While the European countries are using technology as a tool, we have still not recognised the potential of technology. If we utilise technology in the right sense and in right time, our country will reach the pinnacle of glory.
