It´s definitely different, there is no doubt about that. The concept is simple, something which has been rarely tried on the Bollywood silver screen.Though not a classic, it is a fun-filled joyride driven by an outstanding performance by its star, Nana Patekar
Raghu (Nana Patekar), an insurance salesperson now turned taxi driver and Jai (John Abraham), the son of a wealthy business family, are two citizens of Mumbai. Both these characters live in different worlds. Their paths cross one day when Jai steps into Raghu's cab. Jai is on his way to court to claim money which is rightfully his. But soon, a simple cab ride kicks off a journey in which things go unexpectedly and spectacularly wrong.
The strangers turn into vicious adversaries, as both men are sure of only one thing - that the other is to blame!
The plot of the film is very slick, and though the whole movie hangs on the basis of a coincidental error, Milan, with his directorial skill, handles the plot very well. The story has some minor foibles that can be overlooked, however.
John has turned in a very mature performance, and surprises with his good delivery, but the one actor who really impresses is Nana. He is hilarious in the comic scenes, which, surprisingly, don´t hinder the movie´s speed. If you liked him in Bluffmaster and Apharan, you´ll love him in Taxi. Sameera teeters between decent and lousy, and Sonali supports well.
The songs range from excellent to just average. The best song in the film is definately ''meter down'', a racy number .Milan Lutharia's direction is pretty consistent. He has the technical aspects down, so the film is well made. Sound design and camerawork are two of the best things about the film.
All in all, taxi is a delight to watch for its performances, some songs, and an interesting story line. Let´s see if in a dull year of flicks like Mere jeevan saathi, Aksar, and Holiday a good film like Taxi can make an impact.
