METRE DOWN

Bollywood had been providing us with a series of innovative movies, which includes Zinda, Rang De Basanti, and we also had Kalyug at the end of last year. Here we are not disappointed by Taxi No. 9211 which begins the innovation right from the different name itself (even if innovation needs to come from Hollywood movies, this time from Changing Lanes).

With some great Cinematography, it also have some pretty good songs, ''Ek Nazar Mein Bhi'' being the best among them. ''Bombai Nagariya'' and ''Metre Down'' are some other good ones. We also have the sentimental track of ''Aazmaale'' which happens to be one of my favourites, may be another good choice for adding into the heartbreak songs. ''Udne Do'' and ''Bekhudi'' are just fine.

The movie is focused on two characters, one of them being Jai Mittal (John Abraham), the son of a wealthy industrialist, living a life of luxury and ignorance, looking at life only from his angle which see only girls and parties. He is supposed to be in love with Rupali (Sameera Reddy), another one addicted to money.

The other character is the short-tempered Raghu Shastri (Nana Patekar) who drives a taxi for living, but manages to make his wife (Sonali Kulkarni) believe that he is an insurance agent. He has got enough financial problems, and this man is a rude, careless person who doesn't give a damn about the other people or their feelings. One day, both of these men meet, and their life takes a new turn then.

THE GAME OF LIFE

Jai has to get his father's will from the locker and present it to the court to inherit 300 crores. He gets into Raghu's taxi and keeps giving him money to speed up the car and also to break all the traffic rules, until it crashes into another car and Jai disappears from the scene. Jai is all set to get the will, but unfortunately, he loses the key of the locker in Raghu's cab.

Jai visits Raghu in jail, but he was not ready to say anything about the key, and runs away while he is presented to the jail. Jai goes to his house and asks her wife about him, which means that his wife now knows that he is a taxi driver, and is very upset with him.

Jai promises, him a job in the Insurance company, but driven by anger and desperation, Raghu wants to take revenge on Jai, and even tries to kill him. As the story progresses, both reaches a situation where they find out the fact that they are losing everything they desired for.

A NICE SELECTION

John Abraham gives a pretty good performance as the extravagant son of a rich father, who learns about the reality of life and also about his responsiblities later, after a series of incidents. He had been proving that he has got acting abilities along with his good looks, in his recent movies, especially Zinda. He looks extremely good during the song sequences. He has managed to show all the frustrations and sentiments of his character quite well.

Nana Patekar is impressive, and he has fitted into his role like never before. His character was a bit exaggerated through out the movie, he has got the perfect accent and style for these kind of roles. Sonali Kulkarni has excelled as Nana's wife, and plays the typical house wife with an ease.

Sameera Reddy seemed to be an unnecessary element in the movie, as her character just didn't seem to make any impact in the movie, nor did she do anything impressive in it. Her acting skills seems to be stuck right where she began, no scope for improvement. The only change that the viewers may notice is that she seems to have gained some more weight!

Priyanka Chopra also makes an appearance in the movie, may be to make the end of the movie better, and interesting for the John fans. Another great thing about the movie is the way in which it is presented. We can hear Sanjay Dutt himself introducing the two main characters of the movie to the viewers, and showing life from the points of both of them. Milan Luthria's direction needs some applause for all the good work he has done in this movie.

I didn't find anything special in this movie, but it was certainly a different one, and a must for all the John fans out there. There are also a few funny moments in the movie, but this movie failed to be thrilling in any manner as I expected from the trailer. Avoiding the two sequences involving John, Nana and cars, the movie does not provide you with any memorable action sequences. Watch this one simply for passing time, instead of thinking much about the plot, as it is a good enough entertainer, but not the best you will see.

Starring: John Abraham, Nana Patekar, Sameera Reddy, Sonali Kulkarni etc

Director: Milan Luthria
