I own a Tata Spacio 2003 model.
Pros -(1) Very spacious.(2) Very sturdy vehicle. Ideal for good and bad Indian roads.(3) Great fuel economy - about 13.4 kmpl after 1.35 lakh kilometers on the odo, and 8 years of driving.(4) Very low maintenance.
Cons -(1) Do not look for luxury(that's a far thought), even comfort!(2) Do not hope for a silent drive. You don't need to honk. Everybody knows you are around by the sound of your engine.(3) Vintage Airconditoning. Does not have hot air option.(4) The floor mats etc. are very flimsy.
BIGGEST CON - TATA MOTORS IS BAD, POOR, UN-RESPONSIVE, in its service. The surprising thing is that after 8 years, when the Spacio needed just very small out-of-the-way repairs / spare parts, there is NO ONE to listen. After trying my luck with Tata Authorized service centers at Gurgaon, Rewari, Ajmer and Udaipur, I posted a complaint on the Tata Motors websites. I did get 2 phone calls, but no solution. And then, Tata Motors forgot about it. I finally reached the Tata Motors Regional office at Signature Towers, Gurgaon. I met one of their Customer Service managers. He listened to my problem and said he will have to first investigate and then call me back. Though he took my phone numbers, he refuse to give me his. It is now nearly 1 month and there has been no come back from him.
In an age when car companies love to be of utmost help to their customers, TATA MOTORS is a complete let-down.
In a nutshell - If you are not looking for bending-backwards service or hospitality from your car company, Tata Spacio is definitely a car that won't ditch you in the moments you need it the most.
