Couple of years ago, we were at the mercy of our cable guys. Times have changed and apparently so have the skies. You are no longer at the mercy of your cable guy.


Couple of weeks ago on a Sunday, I decided to laze around ultimately ended up in front of the TV, turned it on only to find a blue screen. For the IT folks, blue screen is a common entity (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death), but on cable its a different thing altogether. I decided enough is enough and decided to fire my cable guy and hire TataSky.


Their service is brilliant. I called up their phone number, and had a brief wait time after which I was connected to their customer service rep. The guy explained the whole concept to me, and also tutored me on the channels, packages etc. In about 7 minutes I was a living reference on TataSky :)


Anyways, in about 15 minutes I had placed the order, all through telephone (yes, you can even pay thru your Credit card over telephone without uttering the number. You have to punch it in on an IVR system). They gave me the reference number and said that I will receive a digicomp (that's what they call the set top box) in which I have a unique number which I can use to schedule an installation.


I got the courier in 2 days, and I rang up the call center to schedule the installation. They found a slot and scheduled it, and said that the engineer will confirm the appointment. Me being used to our folks promising to call and never bothering to just hoped and prayed that this works out well, and was also gearing myself up for the endless phone calls and wait.


I was pleasently surprised when the engineer called up to confirm the appointment, and the date and time of the installation. On the promised day, he turned up absolutely on time and did his job perfectly. The only thing I needed to give him was a cup of tea and some water to drink. He had everything else with him. It was a job well done. I was very pleased and happy.


He got the DTH in my home ready and about in about 1 hour after he arrived. The whole excercise took aboiyut 4 days just as the call center rep had mentioned.


I am very pleased with the way the whole thing was handled. Tata has some professionals on the job here. The service has been very good and ha ve had no interruptions. They have a good integration with their phone system, the internet account that you can register to and the messages you recieve on your TV. Its consistent and up to date.


On the whole this has been a wonderful experience and I'm already thinking of getting two more set top boxes for the two other televisions that I have.
