Leaving the entertainment part aside, should we think about something serious about business like Enterprise solutions, online solutions, commerce, etc., .. .. to be precise - !!! INTERNET !!!
Someone pointed out correctly. TATASKY or DISH TV, makes no difference; it's like two cola bottles with different brand name. Just being a cosmetic or novelty item; TATASKY and DISH TV cater differently to the entertainment mass. They both have better presentation and marketing campaign, which our cablewala lacks.
The need of the hour for India is Internet. Yes, the options for broadband internet we have currently is very very little, Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, etc. is viable only for someone living in City Central region.
Moving out 20 kms away from Bangalore City, we see that we are still in stone age without cable lines for even telephone lines.
The technology that TataSky and Dish TV which is not only promising for the future, it can be more useful for making internet available directly to your home.
I feel these platforms are under utilized limiting itself for entertainment and some kids' education utilities only.
I am not talking about any new concept here anyway. People in western countries enjoy Internet and TV on same DTH platform. So, what is the problem over here.
Is it the long process of obtaining license from DoT or Government that is holding back these two companies from venturing into Internet business over DTH ??
Internet should be made available over DTH very soon.
Adding a Global Warming twist to this issue, imagine this.
If broadband Internet is made available through DTH, over 5 million BPO workers like Medical Transcriptionists, Call Center workers, and software engineers would stop travelling to the office thus cutting down on carbon emission drastically.
