Hi all,

I bought a Tata Safari VX(fully loaded version) 3 months back and till date driven about 3000 kms.my conclusion at the end of these 3 months is:

THIS VEHICLE IS POOR IN QUALITY.

In these three months, it has gone back to the dealer 6 times already, with a range of problems:

  1. the vehicle is delivered with the most horrible ignition key assembly in the world, with a wide gap all around the keyhole. Most of the times, the key was getting inserted into this gap, instead of the keyhole. On persistent complaining and over 2 trips to the workshop, the dealer(Concorde Motors, Bangalore) managed to create a rubber sealing around it. .tacky but sealed, at least.

  2. The steering was tight and turning radius was too big. back to the dealer for rectification.

  3. The vehicle would jerk when gear is changed from 2 to 3.back to the dealer for rectification.

  4. Continous screeching sound from belt. over three trips to the workshop / home / office etc. belts were cleaned, lubricated, tension adjusted & replaced.problem continued even then.

  5. In busy bumper-to-bumper traffic, some amount of clutch riding is unavoidable(when you are shifting between 1 & 2). the clutch plate got burnt, emanating a foul smell and the vehicle had to be abandoned .back to the dealer for rectification.

  6. The power window switch never worked from the start. back to the dealer for rectification.

  7. In the boot, a plastic panel came off, without any usage.back to the dealer for rectification.

  8. There was a continous rattling sound from under the passenger seat. back to the dealer for rectification.

  9. internal antenna makes the radio reception quality poor.

As far as ergonomics are concerned, the less said the better:

  • arm rest comes in the way of the belt buckle

  • When CD is ejected, it can dash into the gear stick.

  • the ash tray is cheap and tacky.

  • the lighter cover is cheap & tacky

  • the glove compartment cover is cheap plastic

  • the ignition key position is not intuitive and you have to really make an effort to find the keyhole

for a car that costs 12 lacs on the road, this is not acceptable.

Coming to the dealer, they are doing their best to make me happy by repsonding to my SOS calls but in my opinion, the product is bad and certainly not to acceptable standards. It looks like a final year engineering project work.
