The Tata Safari in my opinion is a shoddy product in a fabulous packing which unfortunately happens to be the case with most Indian products today. When the Safari arrived on the scene, it was a sight for sore eyes with it's stunning looks. But gradually reality dawned. This 2 ton behemoth is shod with puny 15'' wheels and has an aging, wheezing under powered heart of a 1948 CC engine which is totally inadequeate. The earlier models had no power steering and the windows tended to fall inside the door panels!
The need of the hour is for TELCO to power this vehicle with at least a 3000CC Turbo engine as in the TATA 407 with at least 16'' wheels. The lights also must be upgraded to atleast 90 watts and the engine oil life must be increased to 7000 KMs between changes.Otherwise it is a foregone conclusion that SAFRI will 'suffer' at the hands of the oncoming opposition like the ISUZU Panther or Kijang etc.
