Proud owner of The TATA SAFARI Dicor 2.2 VTT(Latest Engine) bought in Dec 07 Pearl White Colour, driven around 1000 kms aprox. The Best SUV at the Price offered on Indian Roads . Let me tell u why I bought the SUV, after a lot of research on SUV's including the latest launches, I zeroed on to the three Vehicles - The TATA SAFARI Dicor 2.2 VTT(Latest Engine), The MAHINDIRA SCORPIO 2.6 Crde & The TOYATA INNOVA. Test Driven all the three first the INNOVA - Interiors excellent, silent engine, good milage, but the looks not of a SUV rather a MUV, and a lot of Taxi Innova on road these days you start feeling like a cab driver also the Traffic guy may regularly stop you. Second the SCORPIO - Cool Looks, Good Interiors, but bad milage, cramped inner space, too moch body roll while driving, poor braking at high speed, also the worst thing I disliked was the Gear Shift looked like a truck gear liver had been placed and was vibrating while in idle position. So the final test came on SAFARI - To my luck I heard the news of TATA launching the New SAFARI Dicor 2.2 VTT with a all new Austrian built engine(AVL the same company which has designed the Latest Scorpio engine M-Hawk also). I eagerly waited for the launch and after the launch I took the TEST Drive almost 5-6 times and was too happy with the Pickup, Inner Space, Killer Looks and a Service network all over India.
I have now been driving it for almost 2 months now I am more than happy with the vehicle, apart from small things like some times the rear seats making rattling noise but got it fixed by the dealer. Gives a milage aroung 10-11 kmpl in the city driving, is very easy to handle and but turning radius is less campared to cars. Suspentions are great and braking also good. Go for the EX model - which comes with Blankpunt CD Player with speakers, Tubeless Tyres, Body coulored side Cadding, Beige Interiors, Power Steering & Windows & Central Locking also. I recently got HR(Hi John) original Alloys fitted and now its a head turner. Belive me you feel like a king on the road with this huge monster with no cycle, rickshaw or two wheeler walas comming near you. The new SAFARI DICOR 2.2 VTT gives around 140 bhp and 320 NM of Torque also engine is the latest in terms of world wide technology you can check with other SUV's like Captiva or Endavour using the same VTT technology and also giving same Bhp i.e. around 140-145. Believe me that has completely changed the engine to the newly developed as the older one had recurring problems resulting in bad name for SAFARI. But now you can rely on the latest one. If your budget is aroung 8-10 lakhs and looking for a SUV go for SAFARI DICOR 2.2 VTT.Write to me if you want to know more about it or planning to buy it.
You can also consider the Other SUV's ENDAVOUR, HONDA CRV & SUZUKI GRAND VITARA also but with a higher budget and a burn in your pocket for milage as well as service & spares.
