The Tata Sky set-top box stops working within 10 days of installation. And the company’s customer care executives don’t care, except offering false promises!I bought Tata Sky DTH set on 2nd Feb 2007 from M K Electronic, Kalkaji, New Delhi. The DTH set was installed at my place on 4th Feb.But on the evening of 11 Feb, my set-top box stopped displaying any programmes on my TV.I called the Tata Sky customer care and for about half an hour followed their instructions and fiddled with my set top box.

But there was no positive result. Then the customer care executive told me that they would send an engineer within the next 24 hours to my place who will fix the problem. (I didn’t ask for the name of the customer care executive or the request number because I had not imagined that it would be required. I thought the company would take good care of its customer and act on its assurance.

Though later events proved how horribly wrong I was!)But the 24 hours passed and no one from Tata Sky contacted me on my mobile or reached my place. So I called again the Tata Sky customer care at 7:05 pm on 12th Feb and reminded them of my problem. Expressing regret, the customer care guy, named Nilesh, assured me that they would surely send the engineer to my place in the next 24 hours. (Request Number: 1-266179337)Again, no one from Tata Sky contacted me till 3:00 pm on 13th Feb and so I again called the customer care.

This time Vishal picked up the phone and said some one from the company would contact me within the next three hours. (Request Number: 1-267099354)Again no one from the company contacted me till 7:00 pm.And so I again called the Tata Sky customer care and this time an executive, named Girish, picked up the phone and expressing deep regret assured me that the company engineer will definitely reach my place by 1:00 pm next day (14 Feb). Not impressed I asked him why should I believe him knowing that the company had not honoured its earlier promises.

I didn’t get any response. Then I asked Girish if there is a senior person to whom I could tell my plight and complain about my bad experience with the company. Girish bluntly told me that according to the company policy, he could not provide the name or the contact number of any senior person. (Request No: 1-266179337)I didn’t have any choice but to wait till 1:00 pm on 14th Feb. But again no one from the company contacted me or reached my place. Then I remembered that Kamal of M K Electronic had told me that the after-sales service of Tata Sky was much more reliable than Dish TV.

So I called Kamal and told him about my bad experience with the Tata Sky.Kamal asked me to wait, and putting me on conference called his contact at Tata Sky asking him to do the needful. Kamal assured me that my problem would be taken care of on the same day (14th Feb). And within 10 minutes (at around 2:00 pm on 14 Feb) I received a call from Tata Sky. The guy asked me about my customer ID. In the next 5 minutes I received another call from the company.

The caller told me that he would reach my place in 10 minutes. And indeed he reached my place, diagnosed the problem and told me that the set-top box would have to be changed. And that it would be done within two-days. But on the next day itself a representative of the company came to my house and replaced the set-top box. And the problem was solved.I had also submitted my plight to the Tata Sky through their online complaint form on 13th Feb.

And despite the fact that I provided my Customer ID, email ID and mobile number in the online complaint form, till now I have not even received an acknowledgement from the company, what to talk about taking any action to redress my plight!Moral of the StoryThe Tata Sky Customer Care SUCKS, SUCKS, and SUCKS!!!Correct me if I am wrong. But to put the blame just on the Tata Sky Customer Care should not be sufficient. For, doesn’t it also cast an aspersion on the brand Tata-Sky (I mean both Tata and Sky) itself.I had heard that the Tatas take good care of their customers.

Really? I don’t know. But if that were the case why they stopped being caring lately? Was it because the Tatas were too busy executing their grand imperial plans to take care of their customers back home? Over to Tatas, if they are interested!PS: I had no intention to publish this on a public forum. But I sincerely wanted a manager from Tata Sky to know how their customers are being treated. But Girish, the customer care executive didn’t allow me to do so. And so I am forced to use the good services of MouthShut to take my voice to Tata Sky. Thank you MouthShut!
