On the 6th May 2016 Ranjeet Gupta walked walked into my house to upgrade the Tata Sky HD box to a HD+ box. He claimed to be in a tearing hurry.
He set up the box by disconnecting the old set top box HDMI, power and cable and plugging in the new box likewise he then went to the terrace and changed the equipment accordingly.
When he returned the TV/set up box was switched on and there was nothing on the screen other than some error message. He hurriedly asked us to leave the TV and set top box on for a few hours and asked for 9000 in cash. My sis in law handed him the cash in the presence of my mum, wife kids and I. He then disappeared out the front door sans a receipt.
The TV remained blank till night. Then I called the helpline and they explained that Ranjeet had given them the wrong set top box number.
We also realised that he had taken more money than was required for the installation.
I made a complaint about the same at the helpline and received a few rough talking colleagues of his who asked me whay problem was and kept reassurine that Ranjeet would return the extra money.
However, the next day the TV remained blank and numerous calls to the helpline ensued. Ranjeet was nowhere to be seen.
Finally the TV started working on the sexond day and the TV showed a payment of only 7891.
Ranjeet turned up.at home and did an express demo and stated that the extra money is for the installation equipment. I asked him why the extra money wasn't showing on the telly and he assured me that it would any moment now.
He left the house.
I asked the helpline again and they confirmed that I had been overcharged.
I started chasing the helpline, Ranjeet and his colleagues for the money and he knew his game was up.
He switched off his mobile phone.
Suddenly after four days some balance amount of 1200 shows up on the telly and my two disconnected set top boxes go active. I had stopped paying for Tata Sky since I prefer internet based entertainment on my android TV.
I called up the helpline and asked them with whose authorisation was ill gotten money used to activate two set top boxes that have been disconnected in protest in the first place.
Everyone refused to cancel the set top boxes at the helpline.
I got bizarre replies that were completely out of context with what I was speaking about in an attempt to squash the matter.
Almost a week later today on the 17th May, I've received a cash refund from the MD's office.
Many thanks Ms. Irene D'Cunha
