Here is my sob story. I ordered for a Tata Sky connection over their call centre and made the payment through my credit card. Though the sales talk lasted 20 minutes, vital information was withheld, which I realised only later.
The equiment arrived after a couple of days and their installation people called before their visit.
They advised me to get my societies' permission(society in Mumbai means "Apartment owners association") to install the dish on the terrace which no society permits(Imagine a complex with 200 houses having as many dishes on its terrace). As I was new to the city, I was not aware of this society business. Then they asked me whether the balcony in my flat is in the south eastern direction, which as misfortune would have it, was not. Over telephone itself, they said that TataSky then would not work. They advised me to call their customer service.
The customer service executive as expected said sorry and asked me to return the equipment. I was impressed. Then came the bombshell. He went back on his word saying that refund can not be given as the payment was made through credit card. Had it been by cash, they would have taken back the equipment.
He was kind enough to pass on a very valuable tip. Hand over the equipment to a friend or relative. I was thoroughly impressed by his words of wisdom.
I am at a loss to understand if payment mode makes any difference. Here is a customer who was taken in my the impressive ads and sales talk where vital information like terrace permission and South east direction were not mentioned at all. No caution on credit card payment was also given.
I sent a letter about 20 days back but there was no response. I have now sent a regd letter and do not hope to get any response. I hope my next step of a notice from the consumer forum would elicit a response from the famed TATA group enterprise.
