I have been using Tata Sky DTH with multi-tv(total 2 set-top boxes) for many years now. I have subscribed for yearly subscription for DTH package and multi-tv. The service till now has been good.
However recently I noticed that when my second TV is unused for some time, the DTH service gets disabled. It says that we have not subscribed for the channel. The first TV is not affected.
On calling the service centre, I was told that this was because of the TV not being used for some time(un-specified duration) and was asked to send SMS with'SR' to 56633. I sent the SMS(which cost Rs. 3) to re-activate the second TV's set-top box and it started working immediately.
This problem has never been seen and should not happen! If I have a yearly subscription, I should never be denied service unless the subscription period is over. Why should I spend time in figuring out the issue and spend money on SMS to re-activate the service for no fault of mine? There would have been some merit in such de-activation if the de-activated period is added to the multi-tv subscription period.
This looks like a bug after a recent software upgrade and Tata Sky wants to earn money via reactivation SMS along with inconvenience to the customer. This is shoddy service.
Also, when a email complaint was sent asking for a refund, I was told that it would not be refunded but after a long argument, I was told that they would escalate the matter.
