This is the advertisement campaign of Tata Sky and if you want to know some of the answers, this review might be helpful.
Part 1- Regional pack does not represent the region
When we resettled to Bangalore, we were looking for a new DTH connection and as we bought household stuff from Tata Chroma, they offered us Tata Sky. Honestly, there were no problems with installation and activation. However, we opted for state pack with regional packs, which were Malayalam(my mother tongue) and Tamil. They had some six Malayalam channels in the beginning in a few days the number was reduced to four. There are a total of 25 Malayalam channels presently on air and 15 are coming up soon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Malayalam-language_television_channels) and all they offer are just 4 channels in the name of regional pack! As they claim in their website, Tata Sky is a joint venture between two Titans, Tata Group and the Star TV and a majority of the channels which you get in most of the packages, are different versions of Doordarshan.
Part 2- The funny/irritating customer care
So we found out that there is not a single English movie channel in the package that we opted and hence decided to subscribe to the English movie package(60 rupees extra). Logged in to my online account, activated the package but it never appeared even after trying for 3-4 times. Then I called up the customtakeouter care and the girl enlightened me that I cannot activate those packs online. Then I asked, why there is an option to activate it online and she answered "it's just there", my arguments ended there.
Then in the last two days I had to call up four times to get a particular information. First time when I called up, the lady at the other end told that their system is down and call up after two hours(no concept of call back, because customtakeouter WAS the king, not now). I called up again today and the guy who picked up the call had no idea what he was talking about and I gave up after a while. Then I raised my concern about the reducing number of Malayalam channels, his response was kind of funny "Sir, we are providing less number of channels, but quality channels" So you decide the quality of the channels I watch, and not me? Dear so called customtakeouter service guy, if it is available in any of your channel packs, I would suggest to try and'get a life'.
As we paid the money for the set up box etc, we are planning to use it for at least a year, but not more than that. And I certainly am not a promoter or a repeat customtakeouter, you know how easy to lose one and how hard to get a new customtakeouter, but to retain an existing customtakeouter would've been much easier! Lesson: Poochne main jaata hai- paisa, time, mobile phone credit, to name a few.
Update: I complained about the unavailability of channels as promised on Twitter(@tatasky) and they completely blocked me from tagging them or following them. If this is the response of a so called national DTH provider, I would suggest never go for them!
