We used to have the usual cable connection in our village which cost Rs.1000/- Nonrefundable deposit and Rs. 150/- per month for subscription. The channels which we used to get were just 13.
12 Entertainment and Movie channels and a Local channel where Movies used to be played every week. No news channels. This was in the year 1999. It was good since we were used to watching only 1 channel and Sony had removed all it's free channels from the air, so the Dish we had which was extraordinarily big became useless.
The Zee based dish tv came out for Rs.7000/- soon after and I did not want to spend that much money as I did not have the same at the time. So it was Lousy cable till 2006.
When TATA sky was launched for 1500/- Installation with 6 months free and the channels. It was a revelation for me and I got it fixed.
The Service was Excellent. I took a second connection for my Flat and it was good.
Took the whole package which was came to 603/- per month, When I shifted to another city, I told to take the Set top box with me and TATA sky relocated the dish in 1 day. Very Fast.
I have had no problems with TATA sky for the 8 years used, other than loose card, which was resolved promptly, it may have happened 8 times in 8 years.
8 YEARS LATER:-
Recently I shifted home and As usual, the Set top Box.
Very unusual response from the service team, Their service engineer was not able to come to the house and after waiting for the whole day, abandoned the idea, Still for old times sake, gave another chance. They sent a person who took an entire day to Drill the holes for the dish, Dish still not placed. On calling the Centre, they said they will send the person in 3 days.
On the other hand, a Representative of Videocon DTH, came to the building and offered a better deal almost half the cost of TATA sky, with recording. Needless to say, I think I shall be going for the Videocon Deal after looking at their channel costs, Website and reviews.
