. the world speaks about India's product rather than its service. I would not have written this if my driving instructor here in UK did not speak about Tata Nano on the day of its launch. Also surprised its not been THE topic here in Mouthshut. Be it hype or marketing strategy or whatever, to make a car worth less than 1300 UK Pounds or 2500 USD or 1 lakh INR is nothing less than stunning. Still, its only cheap on cost. It has a cute design, decent comfort and space and appears like it meets Euro IV emission standards!

There is no doubt that the purchasing power of an average middle class Indian is growing. What our country lacks is world class products, produced in our own country and affordable. I have heard and seen "If the USA sneezes, the world catches cold". With increasing dependency on US economy to sustain ours, more products like Tata Nano would bring greater relief. I am not an economist; but it doesnt take an economist to understand India would grow better if it has a self-sustained economy.

Growing vehicles on road, emission, infrastructure and all other'road' issues have always been something to worry about for our government. But, it has never been thought about by everyone to an extent where whole of India forgot all about Harbhajan and cricket! Now, there is added pressure on the government to improve infrastructure.

There will be competition as well. More manufacturers would try to beat the Nano. And competition is healthy. Its astonishing how one positive change can trigger more good ones. If Tata Nano is not a revolution, it is atleast that positive change. The fact that a car for 1-lakh is available(and not produced in China!) is a surprise. But its more surprising that the'thought' behind the making of Nano is simple. Rear-engine, minimum capacity, minimum parts like tubeless tyres and single wiper . now I understand better what simplySUPERB means.

Whether Tata Nano delivers what it promises is another question. But,

for the first time in my life, I am hearing about our Indian product's

price quoted in USD and GBP! It has made the world take notice. Kudos

to Tata motors.

Smiles,

Vinayak
