I picked up the Tata Manza thinking I am buying a total Indian car and am totally unhappy with the experience and would recommend prospective buyers to talk to at least a few owners to see if they were happy with the product before making the decision.
The price looks attractive and it definitely has good room but that's about it. It is just 6 months since I brought it and every small nagging problem makes me wonder why in this day and age they make crappy cars like this.
The engine has a noise and the service folks of Tata proudly say it is the hallmark of Tata's, the plastic of the interiors are very poor, my brake light cracked one fine morning while hitting a pothole and they will not replace it at the service, though it is in warranty... my fan belt got screwed in just about 6 months and it is blamed on poor wiring and they have rewired it now, the bottom guard has given up and they have replaced. All this, due to one trip to Tirupati. I have made a few trips to Tirupati on my i10 earlier on the same road and have had no problems on that, this was a shocker.
Earlier when I took delivery, the leather seats got screwed up and it took more than 15 days to deliver my vehicle though it got delivered to Concorde motors Chennai 6 weeks after booking. I had a big engine noise and that got fixed in the first service. The Seat belt side panel is very flimsy and forever keeps popping out and there is no fix for it. The service station folks are helpless and have no spare and folks there keep changing. The big shock is when I went for the recent service I got to see a bevy of Manza's lined up with a lots of complaining owners/drivers about similar glitches. I have never seen this with any of my previous purchase, be it a new Zen or a new I 10 or a new Esteem...
One really feels cheated for having made this bargain. It is sad that we chose the best of breed model with a great company like TATA and end up buying a crappy car, poorly finish and poor quality of materials. Not sure if consumers will give a second chance. The other big irritant is the call center folks who keep bugging about the feedback post service and mechanically note down your comments without any empathy and which leads to more phone calls from everyone in service but no action plan or true care or solution focus, just calls and merely following processes witch scant care for customer feedback. Very frustrating.... and really sad for Tata's a company that I held in high esteem, they have not got their act right and I see no signs of them making attempts to correct this.... no patch the Japanese or Korean manufacturers with whom my experience has always been very good.
The irony here is, when anyone inquires about how the new vehicle is, , , , it is very sad but to say the truth that I am not happy and keep using my car. One more issue and am selling this off .... This has been the most disappointing purchase so far having bought and changed over 5 cars in my life. Sharing this to ensure that folks who do research before buying, really check out on this product, there sure are better options. The price and space is not worth suffering the glitches in the car the one has to live with forever.
